Members in attendance: Bill Johnson, Dennis Moore, Joann Warren, Joanne Galliano, Lou Pullano, Philomena Fayanjuola, Robert Melucci, Ruth Barrington, William Green
A very spirited meeting was held on April 19 in response to the submission of sub-committee reports. Much of the dialogue centered on the Mission drafts and after much discussion, the members in attendance suggested the following statements be submitted for comment to the greater college community:
Mission
- Statement #1
Our mission is to provide open access, affordable, and lifelong educational opportunities to all members of the community in order for them to become successful students, citizens and employees. - Statement #2
CCRI is committed to providing comprehensive academic, technical, professional and personal enrichment courses as part of the demanding programs that lead to associate degrees and professional certification. - Statement #3
The Community College of Rhode Island’s mission is to foster student success by helping them shape and realize their goals according to their skills and needs. - Statement #4
The Community College of Rhode Island is a public, open access institution, providing quality, affordable educational opportunities and services to a diverse community and its citizens.
Vision Statement
The group also seemed to endorse the Vision statement created in 2001 with some minor tweaking.
Values
There seemed to be a feeling that the Values should be written in a statement as opposed to single words. Dennis will review with the sub-committee.
The committee also discussed several communication vehicles in order to get feedback from the college-wide community. They include:
- Upcoming Department Chair meetings
- Web site dialogue
- Staff meetings
The committee did not confirm a next meeting but felt one was needed.
