Absent: Philomena Fayanjuola, William Green, Tracy Martin, Michelle O’Brien, Lou Pullano and Wayne Solomon.
JoAnn Warren arranged a distance learning meeting between the Flanagan and Warwick campuses. Unfortunately we were not able to link to the Providence Campus.
JoAnn opened the meeting and reviewed the agenda.
The process for outreaching to the college community was discussed. It was suggested that the format for the forums could follow along these lines: A review of what we’ve done, project phases, NEASC report on Mission, and reaction to statement drafts. At Professional Development Day, present everything we’ve done to date and distribute dates for campus forums.
A general discussion ensued on providing greater opportunity for everyone to participate. It was suggested that discussion won’t occur until drafts are presented. It was also suggested that we need to be more inclusive. Lee Chartier suggested that in light of the current unrest at the college, we might want to review our timeline. She suggested that we use a process similar to what is being used for General Education forums. A Facilitator’s Guide has been prepared and Lee is willing to share it with us. Lee will e-mail template to JoAnn. Committee agreed to revise the process and that the forums would now be used to gather input on mission, vision, and values. Draft statements should not be distributed. Committee felt that forums would provide greater participation to discuss issues. Other materials to be available at the forums: original charter, existing mission statement and 2001 materials. Presenters should provide historical context, committee charge and solicit discussion.
We decided to adjust the power point presentation that JoAnn used in the last meeting in each of the forums to engage active feedback from attendees.
JoAnn volunteered over spring break to set up a web page for keeping the college community informed about the process.
Dates and times have been scheduled for opens forums for each campus – facilitators are still needed. JoAnn is going to check with the Professional Day committee about having a time/space slot for an open forum on that day. Any committee members who can schedule to attend any of the open forums would be greatly appreciated.
Nick Kamboures is going to be working with student government leadership for their feedback for mission, vision and values and will report back. Nick also followed up with his State House contact and is able to make delivery of any hard copy material possible.
Next meeting: March 15 at 1 p.m.
