Meeting was called to review format and process for the public forums and discuss content of the website.
President Sepe, stopped by to chat with the committee for a few minutes. He thanked the committee for its hard work.
JoAnn reported that the Committee was given a slot to conduct a forum during professional development day (10:15 – lunch in room 6204). Logistics related to rooms, equipment and facilitators were addressed.
- It was agreed that two facilitators should be present at each of the public forums. Members present agreed to "facilitate" specific forums, however it was recommended that others be asked to participate to lessen the burden on those present.
- Joanne Galliano volunteered to create a flyer for distribution at Professional Development Day for Public Forums.
- Ruth Barrington volunteered to order equipment necessary for the public forums.
- Michelle O’Brien volunteered to get previous mission statements for publication on the website.
- Dennis Moore volunteered to have documents generated by the 2001 Vision Initiative Committee scanned for publication on the website.
- JoAnn volunteered to continue work on the website.
- Lou Pullano will be asked to present an update on Committee progress at Professional Development Day.
Jim Kirby, CCRI Webmaster, will be designing a site for the committee. JoAnn asked all to review the "content" published on the test site (http://test.ccri.edu/mission) and make suggestions for improvement.
A review of the power point presentation, based on the General Education Committee’s presentation was conducted. Each slide was reviewed and adjusted to reflect the intent of the committee.
It was decided that the forums will address 4 objectives:
- Educate the college community about what Vision, Mission and Values statements are, why they are important and how they are used.
- Provide an historical context for committee work dating back to 1994 when the NEASC Commission first recommended that CCRI begin a process to periodically review its mission.
- Elicit input from the college community relating to:
- CCRI’s future addressing specific questions such as: Why do we exist? Whom do we serve and why? What are the expectations of our stakeholders? What will CCRI "look like" in 5 years?
- Core values addressing specific questions such as: What are our values, beliefs and philosophies as it relates to what we do and why we do it? What do we do well in terms of working together, with others and with our students?
- Use the outcomes of the sessions to formulate CCRI’s Mission Statement.
The focus of the sessions will be on Vision and Values as they underlie what we do. A revised power point presentation will be circulated to committee members for review and modification.
Timelines for completion of our work was reviewed again. The NEASC Commission expects that in the spring 2006 progress report we will have a mission statement in place. Our recommendations will need to be at President’s Council for its approval in September/October and needs to be approved by the Board of Governors. Ruth informed us that the Board is scheduled to meet in October. Although these deadlines are important, committee members agreed that having an "inclusive process" is critical to our success.
It was suggested and agreed upon that we work as whole in developing draft statements, rather than breaking into sub-committees.
