October 21, 2005 - Notes
Members in Attendance: Lee Chartier, Dennis Moore and JoAnn Warren
The purpose of this meeting was to review the latest statements developed by the Committee on 9/23/05. As various committee members had shared the most recent revisions with the college community and received mixed reactions, the Co-Chairs called an additional meeting to review statements once again.
Members present at the meeting decided that until the Committee can come to some consensus or at least a majority opinion, more revisions are necessary.
The following statements were identified for committee reaction. Committee members will be asked to rank the mission statements presented, and the most "popular" version will be forwarded to the President’s Council. Committee members will also be asked to identify any one statement that they "can’t live with". This ranking will be achieved using e-mail, with follow-up telephone calls.
The presentation of the statements was further discussed. The mission statement should be able to stand alone, without any description of the college preceding it. We once again reviewed the purpose of a mission statement – why we exist, what we do, used as a decision making tool, measure performance, etc.
The meeting with Dr. Judith Brissette scheduled for Tuesday, 10/25 was also discussed. The committee was selected to be interviewed. Committee members did not request this meeting. Committee members should contact Dr. Brissette directly if the scheduled meeting conflicts with other commitments.
