JoAnn called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m. in the 2nd floor VP conference room.
Individual members introduced themselves. Both Tom Sepe and Ruth Sherman addressed the group and stressed the importance of the work of the committee.
General discussion on the future meeting schedule. Members agreed to keep the meetings to 90 minutes or less. Many of the participants talked about how privileged they were to be a part of such an important committee that will leave a legacy for the next several years. Committee members were also described as ambassadors to the rest of the college. This is a project of shared ownership that should reach out to everyone at CCRI.
The work of the committee is an important part of the NEASC recommendations and the results will distinguish us from URI and RIC. It’s important to define what a mission is. JoAnn also referred to the work of a committee in 2001 that did important work in defining the characteristics of the college. Dennis suggested that in order to augment the previous work, an on-line survey be conducted ASAP. The survey would ask respondents to describe in two words their reaction to the following questions: What CCRI’s Vision for the future? What is CCRI’s Mission? What are CCRI’s Values/Guiding Principles?
Also agreed that at February 18 meeting, JoAnn will present a primer on developing Vision, Mission and Values statements.
