CCRI documentary to air on public access

June 22, 2015

Aerial view of Promenade Street home of RIJC. This aerial photo shows the former factory building on Promenade Street that was the first home of what then was known as Rhode Island Junior College. A new documentary film exploring the history of the college from its start in 1964 to 1980 will be shown on public access channels through July.

Miracle on Promenade,” a one-hour historical film that looks back on the early years of Rhode Island Junior College/Community College of Rhode Island, will air on public access channels multiple times through July.

The documentary covers the time period from 1964 to 1980 and was created as part of the college’s 50th anniversary celebration. It includes historical footage and interviews from students, faculty and staff who experienced the early days of Rhode Island Junior College in an old factory building in Providence, the growth that led to the construction of the Knight and Flanagan campuses, the tenure of four presidents and the eventual name change.

It will air in Coventry, East Greenwich, Exeter, North Kingstown, Warwick, West Warwick and West Greenwich on Cox Channel 18 and statewide on Verizon Channel 31 starting this weekend at 7 p.m. Saturdays through July 25; 11 a.m. Sundays through July 26; and 11 a.m. Mondays through July 27.

It also will air statewide on Cox Channel 13 and Verizon Channel 32 at 9 p.m. Tuesdays, July 7 and 14.
