Opera Club members can be hired for caroling
as fundraiser at Knight Campus

Dec. 16, 2013

Opera Club members sing carols at a holiday breakfast at the Knight Campus last week. Members of the club are available to sing carols as a fundraiser at the campus this week.

This holiday season, you can help spread caroling cheer to your office, classroom or party – even if you don’t have your own golden voice. The Community College of Rhode Island’s Opera Club is offering its third annual Sounds of the Season event, a roving fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 17 and 18, at the Knight Campus in Warwick.

For $10, those interested in hiring the carolers can get a set of traditional or winter carols – about 10 minutes per set – sung by the club members.

Voice instructor and Opera Club adviser Amanda Santo said that the club, which is also celebrating its third year of existence, wanted to create a fundraiser “that was a little bit different; something that would be fun that would bring joy to others.”

Last year, 10 people hired the singers, helping the club raise $100 toward its coffers, which members use for excursions to gain exposure to live performances. “In addition to giving the students chances to perform, these excursions give them a chance to enrich their education in terms of appreciating the operatic art,” said Santo. “The club also promotes the public awareness of opera and the arts.”

The club also sang carols for a few nursing homes last year free of charge, said Santo, who added that members would gladly do so again this year if they were hired. Santo said that the club was considering donating the funds raised from the event to charity this year, although members had not yet specified the exact charity.

To help spread the warmth and happiness of the holiday season, contact Amanda Santo to arrange your caroling time.
