Alumni Nursing Chapter sponsors ‘The Ethics of End of Life Care’ seminar

Dr. Diann B. Uustal, clinical nurse ethicist and founder and president of Educational Resources in HealthCare Inc., will present “Hope and Promise: The Ethics of End of Life Care” from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Alumni Association Student Development Center (Room 1040) at the Knight Campus in Warwick. This seminar will cover the ethics of palliative care and what health care practitioners can do to improve end of life treatment.

Dr. Uustal is an internationally recognized educator, speaker, author and consultant on health care ethics and caregiver issues. She is a frequent presenter at hospitals, colleges and conferences and her biography has been featured in several Marquis Who's Who® publications, including “Who’s Who in American Nursing.”

An author of five books and co-editor of three, Dr. Uustal’s publication titles include, “Clinical Ethics and Values: Issues and Insights in a Changing Health Care Environment,” “Caring for Yourself - Caring for Others: The Ultimate Balance” and “Cutting Edge Bioethics: A Christian Exploration of Technologies and Trends.” She also served as a consultant for the award-winning Concept Media film series on ethics, values and health care and wrote the script for the film “Values Clarification.”  

Dr. Uustal earned a doctoral degree in education majoring in ethics and values in health care at the University of Massachusetts. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in health care ethics as a visiting fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University. She received a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island.

Admission costs $10 for alumni and members of the public. RSVP online. Students are admitted free with a student ID and may RSVP by emailing alumni@ccri.edu and providing their Banner ID number. CEUs have been applied for.

This event is presented by the CCRI Alumni Association. Sponsors include the Community College of Rhode Island, CCRI Alumni Association, CCRI Foundation and the Office of the Dean of Health and Rehabilitative Sciences. Refreshments will be provided by the CCRI Nursing Department.
