Electronic refunds now available to students

Sept. 22, 2011

A new online system will allow students to receive tuition and financial aid refunds as a direct deposit to their bank accounts this fall and, by next semester, pay tuition bills online quickly and easily.

To sign up, students should log on to MyCCRI and click on the “My Account” tab. Students should click on the blue “Refund Account Setup” link on the left side of the screen and follow the prompts through the rest of the process. After creating an online account, they can specify a personal savings or checking account for receiving refunds.

CCRI Assistant Controller David Rawlinson said the new system is an easier way for students to receive refunds. Rather than waiting one or two weeks, students can expect their money two or three days after the date of the refund.

Rawlinson said that most students receive financial aid refunds in October, when Pell Grant and direct loan money comes through. However, he said, refunds happen every week for dropped classes or other reasons.

“Even if students don’t think they’re going to get financial aid, it would be a good idea for them to set up their accounts in the event that they have a refund for some other reason,” he said.

Soon, the college will introduce a new e-billing system that will allow students who have signed up at the Web address above to pay bills as a direct bank transfer or through a debit or credit card.

The new e-billing system also will allow participating students to authorize parents or guardians to view the account and pay bills. Rawlinson said the e-billing option will be in place by the time tuition bills for the spring semester are sent.

He added that, while paper billing and refund options are still available, the new online systems are more convenient for students and for the college.

“We printed 6,200 refund checks in one day last semester,” he said, noting that the online e-refunds and e-billing systems will save the college some costs.

As an incentive for students to create an account, a raffle will be held for the first five weeks that the service is available. One student each week will be chosen to win a $50 gift certificate to the CCRI bookstores.
