Student-athletes, alumnus receive honors
at State House
May 3, 2011
Ten CCRI student-athletes were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements during the Scholar-Athlete Awards Reception hosted by Speaker Gordon Fox and the Rhode Island House of Representatives at the State House on May 2. Ken Hopkins '75, head coach of the CCRI baseball team, received the distinguished athletic alumni award. View photos from the event.
The event gives special recognition to students from CCRI, Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island who have demonstrated athletic, academic prowess as well as model citizenship through community service. Rhode Island Commissioner for Higher Education and CCRI President Ray Di Pasquale, House Majority Leader Nicholas Mattiello and Representative Larry Valencia presented each student with the scholar-athlete award. Following the scholar-athlete awards presentation, Di Pasquale presented Ken Hopkins '75, who recently became the all-time winningest coach in CCRI baseball history, with the distinguished athletic alumni award for his accomplishments as a player and a coach.
