This Facts on File database provides information on the people, events, and topics important to the study of African-American history.

American History in Video New!

The American History in Video collection allows students and researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaries.

American Indian Experience New!

Greenwood's The American Indian Experience is a full-text digital resource exploring the histories and contemporary cultures of the indigenous peoples of the United States.

ARTstor

The ARTstor Digital Library is a repository of thousands of digital images and related data for noncommercial and scholarly, non-profit educational use.  ARTstor documents artistic traditions across many times and cultures and embraces architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, and design as well as many other forms of visual culture.  In order to access ARTstor, Java and Flash Player are required; see the ARTstor System Requirements for further details.  *If you have used ARTstor from on campus as a registered user within the last 120 days, you can use the on campus link even if you are off-campus.  See ARTstor's Remote Access Policy for more information.

Biographies Plus Illustrated

The H. W. Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated database contains over 100,000 biographies and obituaries, and more than 30,000 photographs of the subjects.  The biographies are searchable by name, profession, title, place of origin, gender, race/ethnicity, titles of works, date of birth, date of death, keyword, and presence of images.

Columbia Granger's World of Poetry

The Columbia Granger’s World of Poetry contains 250,000 poems in full text and 450,000 citations.  The poems in full text are the most widely-read in the English language, as well as in Spanish, French, German, Italian, and other modern and ancient languages.

CountryWatch

CountryWatch provides up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the world.

CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics Online

The 90th edition of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, a ready-reference source of chemical and physical data.

CultureGrams

The World Edition of the CultureGrams database provides information on the beliefs, traditions, and institutions of over 180 nations around the world.  The database also includes a States Edition with reports on the 50 states and a Kids Edition covering 65 countries.

Daily Life Online

Greenwood's Daily Life Online is a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary resource exploring everyday life past and present.

Facts on File Online Databases

Facts on File's suite of databases includes Issues and Controversies, Issues and Controversies in American History, Today's Science, and World News Digest.

Ferguson's Career Guidance Center

Ferguson's Career Guidance Center is a comprehensive career research database, providing profiles of more than 2,800 of today's most popular jobs in 93 industries.  The database contains job and industry descriptions from the Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance and the Career Opportunities series, as well as a searchable archive of articles from current and past issues of Career Opportunities News.

First Research

First Research provides industry profiles covering over 700 key industries.  Profiles include industry overviews; the competitive landscape; products, operations, and technology; finance and regulation; regional and international issues; human resources; and labor statistics.

Gale's Literature Resource Center

The Literature Resource Center is built on the Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, and Dictionary of Literary Biography databases.  It also contains full-text material from the Literature Criticism and For Students Series as well as essays on major authors from over 250 literary journals.  Use this resource to find in-depth information on the lives and writings of over 100,000 authors along with critical reaction to their works.

Global Issues in Context

Global Issues in Context offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events.  Issue and country portals bring together a variety of sources for analysis of social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural issues.

Global Road Warrior

Global Road Warrior provides country-by-country information on 175 nations and territories.  Topics include society and culture, travel essentials, business culture, and communications.

History Resource Center has been replaced by U.S. History in Context and World History in Context.

Hoover's

Hoover’s subscription database offers users access to in-depth profiles, reports, and news stories on the most important and well-known companies in the world.

Infobase eBooks

Infobase eBooks is a platform of electronic books covering a range of subjects including careers, history, literature, science, social issues, and technology.

Latino American Experience

Greenwood's The Latino American Experience is a full-text database focusing on the history and culture of Latinos living in the United States.

LearningExpress Library (via AskRI.org)

The LearningExpress Library provides an interactive platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help students succeed on academic or licensing tests and improve basic skills.  Subjects covered include math, reading, grammar, law enforcement, GED, SAT, and career preparation.  This database is now an AskRI.org subscription.

Music Online Listening

Music Online Listening is a comprehensive resource of streaming music.  All databases can be searched at once, or users can access American Song, Classical Music Library, Contemporary World Music, Jazz Music Library, and Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries individually.

Natural Standard

Natural Standard is an international research collaboration that aggregates and synthesizes data on complementary and alternative therapies.

NetAnatomy

NetAnatomy is designed to teach human anatomy to students of the health sciences.  The resource includes radiographic, cross-sectional, and gross anatomy images and information.

NetLibrary

NetLibrary is a collection of electronic books (e-books) that can be viewed online.  In order to use the Community College of Rhode Island NetLibrary E-Book Collection,
  • you must be a CCRI student, faculty, or staff member AND
  • you must first create a user account from a computer at one of the CCRI campuses.
Once you have created your account, you can access the e-books from any computer, anywhere, with Internet access.

The Public NetLibrary Collection is composed of books in the public domain (for example, many classic works of literature).  The Public Collection is available to everyone, and you do not need to create an account in order to use it.

NoodleTools

Provides access to NoodleBib, an MLA- and APA-style bibliography composer.

Nursing Reference Center delivers clinical evidence and knowledge on conditions and diseases.

Oxford Art Online

Oxford Art Online includes access to Grove Art Online, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, The Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.

Oxford English Dictionary

The Oxford English Dictionary is the authoritative guide to the meaning, history, pronunciation, and usage of words, both present and past, in the English language.

Bilingual dictionaries in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.

Oxford Music Online New!

With Grove Music Online as its cornerstone, Oxford Music Online also contains The Oxford Companion to Music and The Oxford Dictionary of Music.

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone is a language-learning software program, available in 25 languages.  To register, please email libmaster@ccri.edu using your CCRI email account and providing your name, 14-digit CCRI Library Card barcode number, and the ONE language you wish to study.  Access is granted for a semester (i.e., thru 12/31 or 6/30).  Because access is limited, priority will be given to new users.  Accounts not used within 3 months will be de-activated.

Salem Health

Online access to Magill’s Medical Guide, which covers diseases, disorders, treatments, procedures, specialties, anatomy, biology, and medical issues.

Salem History

Online access to historical reference series, including: Milestone Documents, The Decades, Great Lives from History, and Great Events from History.

U.S. History in Context (formerly, part of History Resource Center)
