Here's what Amy Chaves, Director of
Clinical Education - Respiratory Therapy, says about her five favorite reads:

|
Goodbye, Mr. Chips
by James Hilton (video in
HELIN; check Ocean State
Libraries for book availability)
It’s just a great story!
|
 |
The House of God by
Samuel Shem (check
Ocean State Libraries for
availability)
It’s an irreverent medical farce,
and an absolute riot.

The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
Probably because it reminds me of an old English teacher.
He made the subject fun. He also first exposed me to the
symbolism that underlies the story. Beyond that, it’s the
ultimate story about growing up.

 |
Charlotte's Web by E. B. White
I remember reading it with my mom. Now that she’s gone,
those moments mean a whole lot more to me. |
|
 |
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
It clearly illustrates loss of innocence. |
Comments: It was hard limiting it to 5, had I had another
choice I would have had to add Dickens, perhaps
Oliver Twist, or maybe
A Tale of Two Cities. |
