Bob Shea's Five Favorite Books

Here's what Bob Shea, Vice President for Business Affairs, says about his five favorite reads:

The World is Flat

The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman

Friedman, a columnist for The New York Times, is, in my opinion, one of the most gifted writers and thought leaders in America today.  He continues to explore globalization, technology and change and its impact on Americans today.  His ideas impact all of us.  He also wrote From Beirut to Jerusalem and The Lexus and the Olive Tree.

Smart Choices: A Practical Guide to Making Better Life Decisions

Smart Choices: A Practical Guide to Making Better Life Decisions by John S. Hammond, Ralph L. Keeney and Howard Raiffa

The best book I've ever read on decision making!  Equally relevant for personal and professional decision making.

Riptide

Riptide by Frances Ward Weller; illustrated by Robert J. Blake

This children's book gave me countless hours of reading enjoyment with my two sons as they were learning how to read.  Probably my favorite book based on the images it conjures in my mind of reading with my boys.  The story of Riptide Windjammer, an amazing dog who roamed a beach on the Cape helping lifeguards rescue people.

The Practice of Management

The Practice of Management by Peter F. Drucker

A classic by the renowned management professor.  Anything written by Drucker is worth reading.

Enchiridion

Enchiridion by Epictetus

A classic work of philosophy.  How to live a more tranquil and productive life by understanding how sound reasoning and logic can help you cut through the clutter of a busy life.
