PowerPoint Program Instructions
If you have PowerPoint 98 or 2000 on your computer, you should be able to view a PowerPoint presentation by double-clicking on the icon for the presentation, then choosing the Open button.
Please Note: if you do not have the PowerPoint program on your computer, you will need to download and install the free viewer from Microsoft. It is available from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=428d5727-43ab-4f24-90b7-a94784af71a4&DisplayLang=en
However if you have PowerPoint 2002 (XP) or 2003 on your computer, you may find that this will not work. This is because there is a security feature within Office XP that forces users to download a file and then open it in a program. This process assures users that their anti-virus software will double-check the file for viruses before opening it on their machine. This lessens the possibility of virus infection for you.
If you have PowerPoint 2002 (XP) or are working in a CCRI computing lab, then follow these steps to open a PowerPoint presentation:
| Instructions | Screenshots |
|---|---|
Step 1Double-click on the presentation icon |
|
Step 2You will be prompted to either Open the presentation or Save it. Choose Save. (Please make note of where the presentation is being saved on the computer. If you are doing this in a CCRI lab the presentation will be saved in the Temp folder.) |
|
Step 3Once the presentation has been saved, click on the Open button. PowerPoint will open and display the slides. |
|
|
Please Note: if you inadvertently close the dialogue box before clicking on the Open button, you can open PowerPoint and then choose File – Open and browse to the file you just saved. |
