Step 1

Open Respondus and select "WebCT CE 3.x-4.x" from the "Current Personality" drop down menu.

Step 2

Select the "Retrieval and Reports" tab.

Step 3

Select the "Retrieve Questions" tab on the left hand side of the screen.

NOTE: If this is the first time you are importing a file from WebCT to Blackboard using Respondus, you will have to create the WebCT server and fill out the server settings.

***** If you have already done this, skip to step 7.

Select "add new server" from the WebCT Server drop down list.

Step 5

An "Add New Server Settings" dialog box will pop up. Select "No, I want to enter the server settings manually". Then click "Next".

Step 6

• You will now have to copy and paste the "WebCT Login page web address" in the first space provided.
• Now, login into your WebCT account and copy the "web address of the home page of the course you want to import your test from" in the second space provided.
• Click the "Extract" button
• Type in "My WebCT Server" for the description
• Type in your "username" and "WebCT password"
• Click "OK"

NOTE: Now your WebCT server settings have been set up, you will not need to go through these settings again.

Step 7

Select "My WebCT Server" from the drop down list.

Step 8

An "Edit Existing Server Settings" dialog box will pop up, select "Use current settings for My WebCT Server" and then click "Next".

Step 9

You will now choose the course that you want to take the test from, from the "course drop-down list".

Step 10

Select either "Quiz or Survey" or "Category" and then select the quiz/survey/category from either drop down-list.

Step 11

You will now enter a "name" for the the new file and then click "Retrieve". Click "OK" on the "File Saved" pop-up window. In the Status window it will say "Successfully Completed" when the quiz is retrieved.

Step 12

Click the "Start" button at the top of the page. Then select "Blackboard 6.3-9.x" from the "Current Personality" drop-down list.

Step 13

A pop up box will open up, click "OK".

Step 14

Another pop-up dialog box will show up. Here, you will want to "Save as new file" by typing in a "name" and click the "Save as New File" button.

Step 15

Now the test is open in the "Edit" mode within Respondus. If you need to make any changes to the test, you can do so here.

Step 16

Select the "Settings" tab at the top of the page:

• On the "Settings" page, click on "Other Settings" and select "Lowercase Letters (a, b, c)" from the answering number drop-down list.
• You will then click on the "Use as New Defaults" button on the left hand side of the page.
• Click "OK".

Step 17

Click the "Preview and Publish" tab.

• Click the "Publish to Blackboard" button on the left hand side of the page.
• Click the "Publish" wizard.

Step 18

• Choose "Publish to Singe Course".
• Select "My Bb Server" from the Blackboard Server drop-down list
• Click "Next"

Step 19

1. Choose the course you want to publish the test to from the drop down-list.
2. Under "Create or replace Exam/Survey or Pool", choose "Create New Exam", "Replace Existing Exam", "Create New Pool", or "Replace Existing Pool".
3. Uncheck "Random Blocks", but make sure "Apply Settings to Exam" and "Link Exam to Content area and Make Available" are selected.
4. Click "Next".

NOTE: If you selected "Exam" in 2. above, you will be prompted to select the content area in the Bb course you want to place the exam. Once you have selected the content area, click "Next"

If you select "Pools" it will automatically be put in the "Pools" area within your Bb 9 course.

Step 20

Click "Finish". Your test will now be in your Blackboard course.
