| Topic | Discussion | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Minutes from 8/28. | Approved | |
| 2. Report from Jeanette Matrone,
Grant Program Manager A. The 9th quarterly report B. Cumulative Report |
A. Jeanette reviewed the 9th quarterly
report sent to the Department of Labor; a summary of this is on the Health
Care Futures Grant website. Access this at
http://www.ccri.edu/hcf B. Jeanette mentioned that the national office has requested Common Measures from the beginning of the grant, which has been sent. Diane mentioned that, since October of 2005, there were 353 students enrolled and 386 students graduated. Many questioned the larger number graduating than enrolled which Diane explained. Jeanette reported that CCRI is now a vendor with the Department of Labor for the grant's programs. This facilitates the unemployed and welfare recipients to enter training and retain benefits training. 93 students were referred and 27 students joined the program. Jeanette mentioned that Dean Maureen McGarry and Marilynne Soscia (a Health Science Coordinator) now has an articulation agreement with high schools and career technical schools. Michael Paruta asked about getting this information to the public, by perhaps creating a website with the information. Ruth Ricciarelli suggested that once CCRI has an articulation agreement, make a summary available listing the class details. |
After the discussion, the recommendation was to make the summary generic and urge potential students to seek advise from the counselors at their school or at CCRI. |
| C. No Cost Extension | Jeanette explained the possibility of applying for a No Cost Extension and that this will be done by the end of March. | |
| D. Subcommittee on Educational Summit | Jeanette explained that there are 4 or 5 people on the subcommittee. | |
| 3. Report from Dean McGarry | Maureen distributed a handout about the job differences between
Supplemental Instructors and Tutors. Jay Spitulnik mentioned that Michael Cunningham offered to have some Health Science Coordinators come to Lifespan to teach them how to set up for tutoring. Maureen added that as of May of 2008 there was an anticipated 249 graduates, which is a significant increase. She believes this is due in part to the successful persistence of human contact. Dean McGarry reminded all present that they are more than welcome to the CCRI Professional Development Day on March 19. |
|
| 4. Sustainability | Jeanette explained that she has been looking at
various sustainability models and showed a PowerPoint demonstration on one of them.
Jay Spitulnik suggested looking into the Organization Development Network http://www.odnetwork.org for models and other information about sustainability. Jeanette mentioned that MONE is very successful with getting administration involved and that we should look into how MONE and education became successful. Jay suggested getting together a subcommittee, take all of these models and make one specific to CCRI's environment. There were several volunteers for a Sustainability subcommittee. Sue Agresta will try to get a meeting date together shortly and a meeting will also be scheduled with President DiPasquale. The meeting with the president will inform him of the sustainability model and the potential for moving the grant into the "fabric" of CCRI and the Health Care Organizations. Hugh Hall added that a strong contributor to success is to have the stakeholders become involved at the inception of the model. |
