| Topic | Discussion | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Budget Modifications | Jeanette Matrone, the Grant Manager, stated that modifications were sent to the Department of Labor (DLT) prior to Christmas 2006. No approval or disapproval has been forwarded to date. | Jeanette said that she is continuing as if the budget has been approved. |
| 2. Student Enrollment | Jeanette announced that there will be a Health Career Fair held on April 25 which will be sponsored by the Health Care Futures Grant. Jeanette mentioned that there are weekly seminars being held for 20 CNA students called Life Skills Academy to steer them toward higher goals. Bank of America is supporting this effort. Jeanette said that a Health Science Coordinator is also working with the Met School in Providence. The expansion of the Nursing program by 90 students will begin May 14. The accelerated program is four semesters. Included are two summer sessions, 2007 and 2008. The students in the program are currently CCRI wait list students. Lifespan has given Jeanette the name of 44 of their employees on the wait list that will be part of this program. Memorial Hospital has 2 employees and the Rhode Island Health Care Association also has approximately 15 students. | |
| 3. Retention | Jeanette mentioned that DLT is funding a new grant which addresses the shortage of LPN's who are needed for long term care. Jeanette is on the committee that is discussing the details of this new grant. Jeanette said that CCRI has offered to support this grant by expanding the current system in place at CCRI. Jeanette expressed a need for more Adjunct Instructors, mostly in Nursing, and asked all those present to be aware of anyone who may be interested. Resumes should go to Jeanette at the Flanagan Campus. | |
| 4. Progress & changes made in enrollment management. | Dean McGarry presented the updates to the CCRI website at http://www.ccri.edu/dean-hrs/faq-hspbprocess.shtml | |
| 5. Performance Based Acceptance (PBA) | Jeanette asked Dean McGarry if there is a process in place which prioritizes or otherwise categorizes the students who apply. | Dean McGarry explained the process of admission into the PBA program which includes a committee and a career counselor. |
| 6. Other issues | John Aflague mentioned that, in a Florida
newspaper, he read about a local nursing program that is enrolling
foreign physicians who cannot be licensed in the U.S. This program
is to help these people become nurses in the U.S. Dean McGarry asked that anyone interested in participating in CCRI's commencement contact her. Commencement will be held on Friday, May 18 at 2:30 pm at the Flanagan Campus. Bill White mentioned that on May 3 at the Ray Conference Center on the Butler Campus there will be a Claire Sullivan Memorial Lecture entitled The Coming Tsunami for Nursing: Extinction or Renaissance? |
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 at 8:00 am in the Rear Faculty Dining Room on the Flanagan Campus.
Minutes were taken by Susan Agresta.
