Strategic Plan Update

Objectives
- To triple unrestricted giving to increase the Foundation’s fundraising capacity by 2008
- To initiate a major comprehensive campaign as measured by raising 30% to 50% of targeted funds by the date of the formal announcement
- To raise awareness of CCRI’s value to the community as evidenced through focus group feedback / increased support
- To improve the capacity of the Foundation to meet its strategic plan as evidenced by increased trustee participation and development
Objective:
To triple unrestricted giving to increase the Foundation’s fundraising capacity by 2008.
Result:The Foundation will successfully increase annual giving to $70,000 in unrestricted funds by June 2006.
Steps:
- Increase trustee giving to annual fund to 100% participation.
- Host 8 monthly breakfasts including financial planners’ breakfast, culminating in a major event 5/25/06 – Goal: $75K – 5 years.
- Issue a President’s Stewardship letter; minimum 2x per year.
- Invite donors to other events.
- Hold President’s Party – April 28, 2006, Liston Campus - Goal $30K.
- Initiate Buy a Brick/Tile Campaign w/East Bay alumni - Goal $15K.
- Increase Chafee Membership by at least two new members.
- Develop an awareness/outreach to financial planners.
- Increase Annual Fund donor base by 15%.
- Increase Trustee expected giving level to $350 annually with additional increase in subsequent years and provide flexible giving options including monthly credit card payment.
- Increase membership in Crusader’s Council by 20%.
- Host Crusaders Holiday cocktail party and President’s coffee hour, 8/06.
- Collaborate with alumni in promoting Tribute Fund.
- Implement trustee telephone thank you program.
- Evaluate yield of each development effort.
Progress:
- Trustee Giving at 85%, with committee members making personal calls to 8 of 53 trustees who have not given to date.
- Additional breakfasts scheduled. Program highly successful.
- Letter sent fall 2005. Letter of introduction from Ray sent January 2006.
- Fabulous Fundraiser well underway with $7,000 in sponsorships secured to date.
- East Bay "Take Your Seat" Campaign underway.
- Chafee Tea – March 9. Planned Giving Mailing to retirees January 2006.
- April 21 financial planners breakfast scheduled.
- Increased trustee annual donation to $350.00.
- Crusader’s Council coffee hour with Ray held January 31.
- Tribute Fund very effective raising.
- Thank you phone call program not implemented to date.
Objective:
To initiate a major comprehensive campaign as measured by raising 30% to 50% of targeted funds by the date of the formal announcement.
Result:The Foundation will prepare to initiate a feasibility study by fall 2006.
Steps:
- Review evaluation committee final report.
- Identify institutional priorities.
- Secure consultant.
- Participate in appropriate trainings.
- Identify and cultivate candidates for steering committee.
Limited progress to date.
Result: The Foundation will maintain effective oversight of financial resources and the management and performance of the investment portfolio.
Steps:
- Coordinate the activities of the Investment and Finance committees to serve the Foundation’s needs more comprehensively.
- Consolidate the schedule of meetings for greater efficiency.
- Provide greater support and improve the flow of important financial information to other committees to support the Foundation’s objectives.
- Oversee the Foundation’s annual budget process and review performance versus budget.
- Develop and implement sound policies and practices in support of the financial and investment needs of the Foundation.
- Hold quarterly meetings with the Foundation’s investment portfolio manager to obtain updates on performance and communicate any changes in the Foundation’s investment objectives.
Progress:
- Committees have reconfigured to become Investment and Finance Committee.
- Meetings reduced to quarterly.
- Communication provided at monthly foundation meetings.
- Budget status – see attached.
- Scholarship and investment policies under review.
- Investment portfolio earned 6.8% to date this year.
Objective:
To raise awareness of CCRI’s value to the community as evidenced through focus group feedback / increased support.
Result: The Foundation will have a comprehensive message to utilize in all communications.
Steps:
- Define a comprehensive, clear and simple message for the Foundation to use in all communication with donors.
- Define target audiences.
- Define the goal intended when reaching out to each target.
- Coordinate message with school’s communications department to be sure they are not contradictory, but complimentary.
Result: The Foundation will utilize free and paid media and direct mail to effectively deliver a strong and clear message about the Foundation to targeted audiences.
Steps:
- Define a budget and goals for a potential media/marketing/advertising strategy to reach target audiences with this message.
- Coordinate marking literature, print ads and potential stories for free media coverage.
Result: The Foundation will measure results of each campaign through appropriate means/metrics.

- Meet jointly with development committee to collaborate and improve effectiveness.
- Branding campaign in place with newly defined logo and tag line to be used on all communications.
- Consistent look across all print matter being implemented.
- Created email invitation for trustees to use in inviting guests to breakfast.
- Created insert for breakfast packet to clarify breakfast purpose and College resources available to community.
Result: The Foundation will encourage professionals to host meetings on campus, tour the campus and view the PowerPoint presentation.
Steps:
- Identify professional groups and contact people for solicitation, including financial planners.
- Contact organizations.
- Establish goal of presentation and create informational handout.
Progress:
- Professional organizations and associations identified.
- Newly designed invitation to host meeting at CCRI mailed to all prospects.
- Committee follow up calls to selected organizations and associations underway.
- Executives Association, Junior League and Realtors Association of Newport scheduled for April – June 2006.
Result: The Foundation will determine future direction of Business Rewards Program to improve its viability.

- Develop and distribute one-page e-mail survey for businesses.

- Business Rewards Program on hold.
Objective:
To improve the capacity of the Foundation to meet its strategic plan as evidenced by increased trustee participation and development.
Result: The Foundation will effectively and strategically recruit and cultivate potential trustees with needed skills, experience and resources to support committee objectives and action results.
Steps:
- Identify gaps for trustee recruitment.
- Inform trustees of recruitment needs.
- Meet with prospective trustees prior to nomination.
- Invite prospective trustees to Foundation and college events.
- Identify trustees to serve as a buddy to new trustees during year one of their tenure.
Result: The Foundation will have policies, procedures, and job descriptions in place to efficiently guide the nominating function.
Steps:
- Review current policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
- Update or write policies, procedures, and job descriptions, including committee member job descriptions, based on recognized best practices.
Result: Trustees will fully participate in Foundation programs and activities.
Steps:
- Develop and disseminate matrix of programs and activities.
- Monitor and encourage trustee participation.
- Create incentives to reward high levels of participation.
Progress:
- Nomination process updated and formalized with timeline, forms, and clearly defined process created and implemented.
- Trustee participation reviewed and follow calls and letters to inactive trustees completed
- Selected trustees moved to honorary trustee status.
- Inactive or unresponsive trustees not renewed. Thank you letters mailed.
- Matrix of participation maintained and distributed at monthly foundation meetings.
- Job descriptions under review or being written.
