Office Administration
The CCRI Foundation maintains status as a charitable organization under c 501(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code for the express purpose of encouraging, seeking, and providing support from private sources for the Community College of Rhode Island. CCRI Foundation funds are primarily used to build a self-perpetuating endowment for the College and for scholarships, but are also used to support college-wide projects which include, but are not limited to, faculty enrichment and development, cultural and economic development activities, the purchase of educational equipment, campus beautification, athletics, library acquisitions, and the support of the CCRI Alumni Association.
Scholarship Descriptions
Alumni Award Scholarship To recognize a second-year graduating student and/or CCRI continuing student with more than 30 credits, of meritorious standing (2.5 G.P.A. or higher), who is planning to continue his/her education at CCRI or at a four-year college/university. Eligible applicants must document involvement in college and/or community activities.
Joe Andre, Jr. Student-Athlete Scholarship To recognize an outstanding student athlete who is currently enrolled at the Community College of Rhode Island, continuing his/her education at CCRI, and evidences leadership, academic success and sportsmanship.
David J. Bedrosian Scholarship A memorial scholarship to provide financial support to a graduating student at CCRI who is continuing his/her education at a four-year college/university and demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to a student who has received his/her G.E.D. (General Equivalency Diploma)
A. C. Bessette ScholarshipTo recognize a graduating student in his/her sophomore year who has 60 credits towards graduation. The recipient will have taken 4 courses from 3 Social Sciences disciplines with a Social Science G.P.A. of 3.5 and an overall G.P.A of 3.0 in all other college courses. Preference will be given to a student who exhibits qualities of good citizenship and academic excellence.
Benjamin Blacher Scholarship To award a scholarship to a student enrolled in the Nursing Program who demonstrates financial need, has maintained a 3.0 G.P.A. in his/her first semester and has demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm in his/her studies of nursing care. Minimally, the student should be in his/her second semester, with preference given to students nearing the end of their second year.
Book Fund To provide students who are in need of financial assistance due to extenuating circumstances of a temporary nature with short-term, interest free loans to purchase textbooks required for their courses of study.
Albert E. Carlotti Dental Hygiene Scholarship To recognize a student graduating from the Dental Hygiene Program who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities.
Carosi SkillsUSA Scholarship To provide financial support to students of meritious standing who are entering CCRI and/or have completed one year at CCRI. Students are eligible in any Career & Technical area of study (Allied Health, Business Administration, Computer Studies, Engineering & Technology, General Programs, Industrial Technology, Nursing or Administrative OfficeTechnology). Students should possess leadership skills and be involved in student run organizations such as SkillsUSA either at the high school or college level.
Arthur Chatfield Scholarship To recognize a student enrolled in the Associate of Fine Arts Degree Program specializing in the Classical track of music studies. Eligible applicants must be RI residents, have completed 9 credits in the degree program, and be pre-registered for minimum of 6 credits in Music.
John Clarke Scholarship To provide financial assistance to low-income Newport residents attending the CCRI Newport County Campus.
Barbara Colavecchio Transfer Scholarship To provide financial support to a graduating student who is transferring to a four-year college/university who is pursing a Liberal Arts Degree with preference being given to a student selecting English or secondary English as a major. Preference is also given to students who have completed at least six (6) credits in literature. Both financial need and merit are considered (students must have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better). Qualified applicants must submit a completed application form and a 500-word essay on what they feel the purpose of literature is. Students must also submit their acceptance letter and/or enrollment verification from the four-year college/university.
Andrew & Mary Conroy Scholarship To provide financial support to Liberal Arts students enrolled at CCRI. Preference will be given to Liberal Arts majors who are entering their second year of study, Pawtucket residents, transfer students who plan to continue their education at a four-year institution and who need financial assistance.
Cooperative Education Scholarship To provide financial support to a students who have demonstrated the ability to relate their work environment to their academic environment. Eligible students must be employed in a position that is related to their academic studies and must have completed Cooperative Work Experience I.
Dental Hygiene Faculty Awards To recognize students graduating from the Dental Hygiene Program. Two award recipients will be selected by faculty in the Dental Hygiene Program; one award for the student with the highest grade point average overall; and the other award for the student with the highest clinical grade point average.
Dr. Domenic DiLuglio Scholarship To provide financial support to students who are continuing their studies at CCRI in any academic program who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
Dollars for Scholars Scholarship To recognize graduating students who are enrolled in CCRI's Access to Opportunity Program, have demonstrated academic growth, demonstrate financial need, and are transferring to a four-year college/ university. Qualified applicants must submit the completed application form, two faculty recommendations, an official CCRI transcript, and their acceptance letter and enrollment verification from four-year college/university.
Emergency Fund for Nursing, Allied & Dental Health Students To provide short-term, interest-free loans to students enrolled in the Nursing, Allied & Dental Health Programs who are in need of financial assistance due to extenuating circumstances of a temporary nature. Preference is given to those students who do not qualify for financial aid through the College. Nursing, Allied and Dental Health students may only access the Emergency Loan Fund twice during their enrollment at the College.
Conrad Ferla Scholarship To award a scholarship to a student in the Business Administration Program who has completed his/her first year at CCRI and is continuing enrollment at CCRI.
Raymand A. Ferland - Joseph P. DiMaria Student Assistant Scholarship To provide financial assistance to a continuing Community College of Rhode Island student who has a minimum of 24 credits and at least a cumulative G.P.A. index of 2.75. Student applicants must submit a one-page typed statement on why he/she should be considered for this scholarship and a recommendation from a CCRI faculty/staff member.
Stephen Flaherty DECA Scholarship To recognize a graduating DECA member of meritorious standing (2.5 G.P.A. or higher) who attends the Warwick Campus and is transferring to a four-year institution.
Daniel J. Garvey Scholarship for Paralegal Studies To provide financial support to a current student at CCRI who is currently registered for at least nine (9) credit hours and who has already completed 24 credit hours towards his/her degree in the Criminal Justice or Legal Studies programs at CCRI. Students must have at least a 3/0 G.P.A. in his/her major; must show that he/she is active in school and/or community activities; and must show some financial need, but need not be financial aid qualified. [Note: Financial need will be determined by the Scholarship Committee, not by the College’s Office of Financial Aid.]
Deborah Y. Griffin Vocal Arts Scholarship To provide financial support to students who are enrolled in the A.F.A. Music program and have successfully completed one (1) semester of Applied Voice for credit at CCRI. Student must have a 3.0 or better G.P.A. and career goals in Vocal Music/Music Education or Vocal Music/Performance.
M. Sue Higgins Memorial Scholarship To award a scholarship to assist students enrolled in the Computer Studies and Information Processing Program who is entering his/her second year at CCRI or transferring to a 4-year college/university. Both need and merit are considered, with preference being given to need.
Hope Branch of the International Sunshine Society Scholarship To provide financial support to second year Nursing students who demonstrate financial need. Students must have completed one year in the Nursing Program at CCRI. Preference is given to residents of Aquidneck Island.
Walter and Eileen J. Jachna Scholarship To provide financial support to currently enrolled student(s) who are majoring in Paralegal Studies, Nursing or Developmental Disabilities studies. The student(s) must be currently registered for at least 9 credit hours for the semester and have already completed at least twelve credits and two semesters toward his/her degree. The student must have maintained a 3.0 G.P.A. or better. The student must demonstrate some financial need, but need not be qualified for federal aid (the scholarship committee shall determine need based on the application). The student must be a citizen of the United States. In the case of a tie in every aspect, with the express exception of G.P.A., preference will be given to the student who has demonstrated more hard work, diligence, and who has the most potential as determined by the Scholarship Committee.
Bobby Hackett Jazz Scholarship To provide financial support to students enrolled in the Fine Arts Program and who are music majors with a total of six (6) credits/ semester. Preference given to students enrolled in Jazz studies.
James Johnson Piano Scholarship To award a scholarship to a piano student in either the Classical Music Track or Jazz Degree Program at CCRI with the stipulation that Jazz students must also study Classical Music Literature and some Classical Piano Literature.
Lloyd S. Kaplan Music Scholarship To award a student who is planning on majoring in the A.F.A. Music program or Jazz Studies. Preference is given to incoming freshman instrumentalists, however, continuing students and vocalists may also apply. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from his/her high school music teacher and from his/her teacher of an academic subject other than music. Student must also submit a brief audiotape performance or may audition in person for the CCRI Music Faculty. Students must submit a high school transcript.
Janet Lebkuchner Scholarship To provide financial support to students who are enrolled in the Fine Arts program and have successfully completed their first year at CCRI. Preference will be given to a student who has at least a B average and has taken at least one Theatre class and/or worked on a wardrobe crew for a CCRI production.
Clara Leclerc Philosophy Scholarship To provide financial support to students who are graduating and transferring to a 4- year college/university (at least 30 credits). Preference is given to students who are philosophy majors or students majoring in a Liberal Arts program.
Christina M. Liston Scholarship The Christina M. Liston scholarship is intended to be granted to a graduating CCRI student who has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and has been accepted at a four-year institution for continued studies towards the bachelors degree in business, computer science, or a related field. The recipient should have demonstrated a high degree of personal initiative while at CCRI and have exhibited strong leadership qualities as evidenced by participation in extracurricular activities.
Edward & Lucy D. Medeiros Scholarship To recognize students graduating from CCRI who have given of their time, talents and energies and demonstrated leadership in the promotion of student activities at the Community College.
Anthony and Lillian J. Masi Scholarship To provide financial assistance to students who have graduated from high school within the past three years of applying for the scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.0 G.P.A. (or B average) to qualify for the scholarship and may renew the scholarship for a second year if they maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. and provide an official CCRI transcript. (Exception is given to a student who received a 2.5 G.P.A. in one semester without forfeiting the scholarship, but must bring their G.P.A. back to a 3.0 or have a B average in the subsequent semester.) It is desirable that the applicant who is a direct descendent of Nicola and Maria Pacitto Masi have first preference for this scholarship; however, failing that in a given year, then preference is given to a student from the general public who meets the academic criteria.
Lillian J. Masi Scholarship To provide financial assistance to students who have graduated from high school within the past three years of applying for the scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.0 G.P.A. (or B average) to qualify for the scholarship and may renew the scholarship for a second year if they maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. and provide an official CCRI transcript. (Exception is given to a student who received a 2.5 G.P.A. in one semester without forfeiting the scholarship, but must bring their G.P.A. back to 3.0 or have a B average in the subsequent semester.) It is desirable that the applicant who is a direct descendent of Anna (Munson) Champlin have first preference for this scholarship; however, failing that in a given year, then preference is given to a student from the general public who meets the academic requirement.
Naylor Memorial Scholarship To assist a graduating Psychology major from CCRI who is continuing his/her education at a four-year college/university. The student must have financial need and have maintained a 3.0 G.P.A.
Valerie Norbury Memorial Scholarship To provide financial assistance to an incoming student of Armenian Heritage. The student must have financial need.
Office Administration Department Scholarship To award a scholarship to a high school senior planning to enroll in an Office Administration Program at the Community College of Rhode Island. Scholarship, citizenship, and professional potential will be considered.
Frank A. Orth Scholarship To recognize a distinguished student in the Business Administration Department Program at CCRI who is seeking to continue his/her education at a four-year institution.
Maria Pacitto Scholarship To provide financial assistance to students who have completed their first year and are continuing at CCRI, (students must maintain a "B" average with a 3.0 G.P.A.) or students transferring to Rhode Island College. It is desirable that the applicant, who is a direct descendent of Guiseppina Pacitto (wife of the late Joseph Mignanelli) have first preference for this scholarship; however, failing that in a given year, then preference is given to a student who is pursuing a program of study in the Social Sciences – with a concentration in History.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship To provide financial support to active members of Phi Theta Kappa, Pi Omicron Chapter who are either F-T or P-T students continuing their education in a degree program at CCRI. Preference extended to applicants who have earned 25 points for service activities and have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.
Pohle Scholarship To recognize a continuing student in the Business Administration Department who has the most overall potential for success. G.P.A., student participation, and academic performance will be considered.
Providence Journal-Bulletin Scholarship To recognize the student who achieves the highest total score during the academic year on the General Educational Development tests taken at the Community College of Rhode Island's test centers and who plans to continue his/her education at CCRI. First preference will be given to qualifying sons and daughters of employees of the Providence Journal Company and its subsidiaries.
Prybyla National Guard Scholarship To provide financial assistance to students who are in the RI National Guard.
Radiography Scholarship To provide financial support to first year Radiography students who demonstrate financial need and have a 2.5 G.P.A. Students must have completed one semester at CCRI.
Bob & Barbara Rinaldi Scholarship To award a student in the Engineering or Industrial Technology program at the College who has completed one year at CCRI and is continuing their studies at the College. Award will be based on merit.
John W. Ruscito Scholarship To recognize Computer Science students at CCRI. First preference will be given to a student with a disability who is matriculated in the Computer Science Degree Program. Second preference will be given to a student with a disability who is enrolled in Computer Science Course(s). Third preference will be given to a Computer Science student who demonstrates financial need. The scholarship is expressly designed to support a student continuing his/her education at CCRI as opposed to a student who is graduating. If none of the above preferences can be met, the scholarship may be awarded to any student at the College who demonstrates financial need.
Society of Governmental Accountants and Auditors To provide financial aid to incoming students, or students who have completed their first year and are continuing their studies. Preference will be given to students who are taking accounting courses as part of their curriculum. Students must submit letters of recommendation from two faculty members and proof of enrollment / transcript.
Solomon A. Solomon Business Scholarship To award a Business Administration Department graduating student with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better who is transferring to a 4-year college/university. First preference is given to a student who is transferring to Bryant University. Students must supply a letter of acceptance from the 4-year institution.
St. Dunstan's/Access Scholarship To recognize graduating students who are enrolled in CCRI's Access to Opportunity Program, have demonstrated academic growth, demonstrate financial need, and are transferring to a four-year college/ university. First preference will be given to past graduates of St. Dunstan's School. Qualified applicants must submit the completed application form, two faculty recommendations, an official CCRI transcript, and their acceptance letter and enrollment verification from four-year college/university.
Student Nurse Organization Scholarship To assist CCRI Nursing students who have completed their first year of nursing and are continuing their studies in the LPN or ADN Program. Preference is given to students with a grade of "C+" (2.5) or higher in Nursing courses during their first two semesters. The awards are based upon the following criteria: 1) Above average clinical performance as documented and determined by clinical nursing evaluation(s); and 2) Eligible for financial need as determined by CCRI's Financial Aid Office
Charles Sullivan Scholarship for Women Returning to College To provide financial support to a woman who is returning to College. Preference will be given to a student who graduated from high school ten (10) years ago and is self-supporting.
Joan Swedberg Scholarship To assist a full-time or part-time student who has completed 15 hours of study and is currently enrolled in an Office Administration Program at CCRI. Scholarship, citizenship, professional potential and financial need will be considered.
F. C. Tanner/Federal Products Employees' Scholarship To provide financial assistance to undergraduate F-T students who are enrolling and/or continuing their education at CCRI, whose parents are employed at Federal Products, and have financial need. Second preference is given to graduating students whose parents are employed at Federal Products. Third preference is given, if neither of the above qualifications are met, to students whose parents are Rhode Island residents.
Jane Thompson Scholarship To provide financial support to second semester Medical Laboratory Technology students who demonstrate financial need and have a 2.5 G.P.A.
Uber/Testa Award To recognize outstanding performance of students in the study of Psychology. The awards are based upon the following criteria:
- Academic Criteria: Students should have taken at least three (3) courses in Psychology and have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
- Graduation Criteria: Students should be eligible to graduate at commencement of the current year.
- Interest: Students should have a demonstrated interest in extra-curricular Psychology-related activities, such as working in a volunteer program; Psychology-related employment; involvement in the College Psychology Club; etc.
- Recommendations: Student must obtain three (3) letters of recommendation from former and/or present Psychology instructors.
Underhill Dental Hygiene Book Award To provide assistance in buying books to students entering their second year in the Dental Hygiene Program. Preference will be given to students based upon academic performance as well as financial need.
Dr. Joseph A. Yacovone Scholarship for Dental Assisting Students To provide financial support to incoming Dental Assisting students who demonstrates financial need and an interest in this career field.
Warwick Branch of the International Sunshine Society Scholarship To award scholarships to students who have completed one year of their studies at CCRI and are Warwick residents. First preference is given to Nursing students. Second preference is given to students in other health related programs of study.
Woonsocket Kiwanis Scholarship To provide financial assistance to incoming students or students who have completed their first year at CCRI and are continuing their studies at CCRI. Applicants must be a Woonsocket resident. Preference is given to applicants who have a career goal in Nursing, Human Services or other field relating to serving children and/or youth at risk.
XRI Scholarship To provide financial support to second year Radiography students who demonstrate academic and clinical excellence. Students must have completed one year in the Radiography Program at CCRI and have a G.P.A. of 3.25.
Yatsko Scholarship To recognize the sophomore with the highest scholastic honors in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program.
Rosemary Sullivan Zins Honorary Award To provide recognition to the student with the highest G.P.A. in Liberal Arts who is graduating from CCRI.
