Purpose:  To award a scholarship to a piano student in either the Classical Music Track or Jazz Degree Program at CCRI with the stipulation that Jazz students must also study Classical Music Literature and some Classical Piano Literature.

Application deadline:  April 1  

Processing Procedures:  Music Department Chair appoints scholarship review committee.

The Music Department Chair completes Scholarship Sign-Off form and forwards it and all applications to the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Upon receipt of all materials, CCRI Foundation check is made jointly payable to the selected recipient and CCRI.  Office of Institutional Advancement sends check and congratulatory letter to the selected recipient via certified mail with a copy to the Music Department Chair.  Copies of the letter plus a copy of the application form are sent to:

Revenue History:  Account was endowed in 1988 by the Music Department from proceeds from piano recital given by Janice Marciano Nimetz.  Ms. Nimetz is a concert pianist and former student of James Johnson.  Ms. Nimetz donated her $1,000 honorarium to establish the scholarship fund.   James Johnson was the first in the state to teach both Classical and Jazz as crossover studies.

The Music Department will host bi-annual piano recitals as a fundraising activity.  Proceeds from these fundraisers are deposited into the Arthur Chatfield Scholarship Account and the James Johnson Piano Scholarship Account on an alternate basis.
