Electronic Classrooms
The Academic Computer Lab is not for use as a classroom. It contains computers that students can use for any reason. Warn the students that lab monitors expect students to have basic computer competence and the lab is often quite busy. Also, documents entered at home might not print out from lab printers if students have used programs different from those on lab computers. The Academic Computer Lab at the Liston Campus is located in Rm. 1216. The IT page can provide you with information about training, equipment loans, help desk hours, documentation, and lab policies.
Food
The cafeteria is on the first floor near the atrium. A wide variety of food is available, from snacks to complete meals. Drinks and snacks are also sold via machines outside the cafeteria and in the bookstore. During the semester, the hours of operation are Monday - Fridays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and then again from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Saturdays, the hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Bookstore
The bookstore conducts textbook sales and is located on the first floor near the atrium. The bookstore is open from 8:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays and the first weekend of each semester from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You can reach someone there at 455-6101.
Fire Drills
System tests, which are infrequent, are always announced. If the buzzer goes off, consider it the real thing and evacuate the class. Have the students take anything of value with them. You should take the roster, attendance sheet, and the like.
Check the diagrams at the top of each staircase to determine the evacuation route for your class and the safe sites for physically challenged students (where during an emergency they go to await assistance in evacuating the building). College policy indicates that you stay with your class when leaving the building and that you stay in the safe site with any handicapped student you might have in the class, having first made an agreement to have a nearby teacher guide your class during exiting. Obviously this needs to be addressed with the College’s emergency planners. Meanwhile, at least know if anyone in the class needs help in case of an emergency and if that person has assistance or if you are it.
Weather-related cancellations
333-7171 or 825-2344 are the lines on which class cancellations are announced. The news can also be found on MyCCRI. Also, watch local television stations or listen to local radio stations. Since many factors contribute to the decision to cancel classes, the announcement is not always made as early as one would like.
Public Transportation
RIPTA schedules buses to the Liston Campus at least once an hour via a variety of routes. Call RIPTA for specifics: 1-800-244-0444.
