Support Services

Classroom Technology Support

The Classroom Support Group provides support in a number of different areas, including the classroom, the delivery and loaning of equipment, and equipment maintenance and repair. Most classrooms are well equipped with audio-visual equipment. If you need to order equipment for any campus classroom, call Dolly Quigley at 825-2231 or 455-6111 or order what you need using the online form. It is not a bad idea to check with Dolly to confirm. You will find the equipment in the room on the date requested. Robert Burrell is the person on the Lincoln campus responsible for seeing that the proper equipment is brought to the room.

Learning Resource Center (The Library)

The Learning Resource Center contains a good collection of material and 19 computers for student use. Printing from the computers is free. Copying is available via a coin- and key-operated copier. Key cards are available next to the copier. Full-time reference librarians Pat Gorman, Marla Wallace, and Kathy Blessing are knowledgeable and most helpful. Contact Kathy if you are interested in bringing a class into the library to do research. Reference Desk: 333-7054 , Circulation Desk: 333-7058.

Library orientations for students: Of special interest are the library orientations given by a reference librarian in a computer-supplied classroom on the second level of the library. Students are introduced to research methods on the internet. Ask the librarians about providing any other library information you want your class to have. Plan at least a week’s lead time to be scheduled. You may call the Reference Desk or use the online form.

Library orientation for faculty: If you want an introduction to the library, call reference or stop in for an appointment. If librarians are not busy, you might get a tour right then. The entrance to the library is on the first floor Module Three South, in the corridor between the cafeteria and the Enrollment Services.

AV materials are available from the library for classroom use.

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center at the Flanagan Campus is located in Rm. 3620, which is above the cafeteria. The Center is designed to assist students in a variety of academic areas, as well as provide information about college services and programs. For students who need individual attention, peer tutoring is available for free, either online or in person, through the Peer Tutor Program. In Flanagan, students can visit the site to schedule an appointment or they can drop-in for help. To schedule an appointment with a tutor, students can call 825-1170 or email: peertutor@ccri.edu.

Additionally, the Center serves as a resource for faculty by providing them with classroom support and professional development opportunities.

Reading Evaluation

If you suspect a student in your class has a reading problem, discuss your observations with Kerri Gagnon, 333-7214. She will evaluate the student’s needs and, if warranted, will arrange supplementary reading activities for the student.

The Writing Center

The  Flanagan Campus Writing Center's normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM. The Center's director, Kristen Garvey, sees students by appointment, although  students may be seen on a walk-in basis as the schedule permits. Assistance is provided on all aspects of the writing process in all disciplines. Additionally,  instructors can request  an orientation to the Writing Center on site or in their classroom at their convenience. Call 333-7276 with questions about the Writing Center or any aspect of the English placement testing process.

Electronic Classrooms

English Department Computerized Classroom: Room 1830 contains 24 computers and a printer, a table students can sit around for lectures, and a white board. Classes are scheduled into this room for the entire semester.

Two Computerized Classrooms are located at the Flanagan Campus. Room 2640 has 20 computers and Rm. 2632 has 25 computers. This classroom is available to all departments and must be booked in advance by calling Cathy Tessier at 825-2408 or by completing the Course Room Change Request form.

Academic Computer Lab: This is not for use as a classroom. It contains 58 computers that students can use. Warn the students that lab monitors expect students to have basic computer competence and the lab is often quite busy. Also, documents entered at home might not print out from lab printers if students have used programs different from those on lab computers. The lab is located in Rm. 3632, on the second floor above the cafeteria. You can call 333-7180 for more information.
