Class Profile:
Students take this course as an elective. They represent the demographic diversity of CCRI classrooms--primarily traditional high school graduates, some high school enrichment students, those with GED's, ESL students, and older, returning students-- and have varying levels of oral and written communication skills. Students' technical skill levels vary. Some students may have had a relevant high school course in video or TV production or have developed technical skills on their own. Other students will have had little to no experience with creating or editing videos.
Course Objectives:
- To develop an awareness of the three stages of production
- To understand the roles and responsibilities of various personnel involved in the production process
- To develop knowledge of and skills with basic video production concepts, equipment, and processes
- To develop knowledge of and skills with basic audio production concepts, equipment, and processes
- To demonstrate basic understanding of communication production technology by developing projects
- To incorporate techniques and practices recommended within the industry
- To demonstrate a high level of critical and creative thinking regarding decision making
- To encourage students to work as a contributing member of a production team, engaged in processes commonly used within the communication production industry
Student Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Brainstorm/outline ideas, transferring them to a storyboard and final script
- Make and defend a production proposal
- Plan all elements of a production, including lights, graphics, and audio
- Demonstrate an understanding of the various types of equipment used in production.
- Shoot a video using portable and studio cameras
- Demonstrate basic video switching
- Create titles using a character generator
- Switch between three studio cameras
- Edit a video with the use of non-linear editing equipment
- Collaborate effectively in group activities and projects
