Appropriate LOEP Accuplacer test score or completion of ESL 1070 with a grade of “C” or better.     

Student Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an enhanced academic vocabulary (receptive and productive)
  2. Use an ESL dictionary efficiently
  3. Demonstrate improved pronunciation and fluency
  4. Demonstrate the ability to ask and answer questions, reword statements, and ask for clarification and elaboration
  5. Be sufficiently understood in discussions and role-plays simulating simple academic situations
  6. Understand the main idea and major and minor details of a short lecture
  7. Apply  note- taking strategies to fill in outlines of short lecture
