Teaching from a Distance

Distance teaching and learning can be a rewarding and exciting experience for both teachers and students. For faculty, teaching a distance course is a very different experience from a traditional course delivery. Moving a course from a campus-based environment to a fully online environment usually requires a redesign of course materials along with development of different teaching skills.

CCRI provides a whole set of tools for faculty interested in teaching from a distance. Those faculty who are teaching a telecourse build their curriculum around videos telecast via Rhode Island cable and utilize either Pipeline or WebCT as their vehicle for communication and distribution of materials to their students.

Most faculty who teach web-based courses use WebCT as their primary application.  WebCT is a course management application that includes a large variety of tools encompassing communication, organization and distribution of materials, assessment and evaluation. Courses can be developed from scratch within WebCT or instructors can draw on pre-packaged content developed for WebCT by publishers called e-packs. Whether your goal is to make your course syllabus and handouts available online, encourage increased communication, do online testing and grading, or share special links and images with students, WebCT can streamline and simplify the process for you.
