Basic Electricity: Circuits and Repairs

If you are thinking about a career in the electrical field or just want to learn more about electricity, this course may be exactly what you need. In this 60-hour program, you will learn the fundamentals of how electricity works, the language of electricity, and how switches, fuses, and relays work. Guided by a professional electrician, you will learn how to measure voltage, resistance, and current. And for the handyman, this course also includes instruction on how to wire simple circuits, how to use the basic tools of the trade, and how to complete minor jobs around the house. (Textbook is included.)

Electrical Apprenticeship Training

This program of study satisfies the state requirement for electricians’ apprentice educational hours. Participants can register for the course that corresponds to the year of apprenticeship. Each course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge to progress through the four-year apprenticeship and lead to passing the state licensing examination. This program is approved by the RI Board of Electrical Examiners and the State Apprenticeship Council of the RI Department of Labor and Training. Upon completion of the four-year educational program, CCRI will issue a certificate of completion.

The courses include studies in the following areas: Orientation to the Industry, Math Calculations, Electrical Systems, Safety on the Job, Tool Identification, Electrical Theory, The Electrical Code, Multiwire Circuits, Harmonic Current and Voltage, Test Preparation and Practice for the Journeyman’s Exam

Classes include reading assignments and written tests; attendance is strictly enforced. (fee includes book)

Electrician’s Exam Preparation

Electricians can prepare for both the master’s and journeyman’s test. In this course you will learn from a seasoned veteran the knowledge you’ll need to take the exam with greater confidence. You will review the NEC, basic electrical formulas and mathematical calculations. Fee includes exam preparation book.

Food Manager’s Certification Program

Enhance your status in the field of food service by receiving your certificate in food sanitation. This state-approved program includes the following: highlights of the RI Food Code; food safety practices; food handling policies and procedures; food premises and equipment, and subjects such as waste management, accident prevention, pest management, and food safety systems. Fee includes book and testing. (Dept. of Health application fee not included.)

Food Manager’s Recertification Program

The Food Manager’s Certification must be renewed every three years. This 6-hour course will satisfy the RI Department of Health requirements by providing you with a review of important food sanitation procedures. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.
