English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Division for Center for Workforce & Community Education offers ESL classes designed to give students an understanding of the basics of the English language. The goal of the program is to help speakers of other languages achieve a level of English proficiency which will enable them to function more effectively in everyday living, enter a job training program, improve performance at a job site, and/or pursue further education.

This program is offered on both the Lincoln and Providence campuses. On the Lincoln campus, there are six different levels of English instruction, each building upon the previous level. A Conversation and Pronunciation class and a Writing class are also offered on the Lincoln campus. On the Providence campus, three levels of English instruction are currently offered. Classes meet in the evenings and on Saturdays in modules of 15 sessions with a total of 45 hours.

If this is your first time studying ESL at CCRI, you will need to take a placement test. No test is necessary for people starting at the beginner level. Students must register in advance.
