WOMEN'S SOCCER
The CCRI women’s soccer team is off to a great 5-2 start, ranked #10 by the NJCAA in Division I. At the time of publication the Knights are 2-0 in Region XXI. The Knights are led by sophomore captain Jami Elliott (Cumberland) who has posted eight goals and three assists, and Lindsay Laurie (Warwick) who has seven goals and two assists. Two freshman standouts have also put up excellent numbers: Cassie Cooney (Central Falls) has six goals and two assists, while Katie Finn (Warwick) has four goals and three assists. In addition, the Knights have been getting great goalkeeping from top Region XXI Goalie Anne Kineke (East Greenwich) with three shutouts. The team chemistry is heating up as they make their push to finish the season in a strong postion and carry momentum into post-season play.
MEN'S SOCCER
The CCRI men’s soccer team has made an impressive turnaround after starting the season with a couple of losses. Since then the Knights have made the most of all their scoring opportunities, raising their record to 4-2-1. They recently avenged a season-opening loss to Massasoit CC with a 2-1 victory. The Knights are led by their defense where goalkeepers Kevin Dos Santos (Cumberland) and Sidney Boaventura (Pawtucket) have combined for three shutouts, the most by any team in Region XXI. They have also benefited from timely scoring by offensive players Ivan Boaventura (Pawtucket) and captain Nick Medeiros (West Warwick). The Knights look to spin this momentum into more victories; if the offense keeps going strong, the Knights will be a very tough match-up for any team in the post-season.
VOLLEYBALL
The CCRI volleyball team started the season hot but has been struggling as of late due to some untimely injuries. This coupled with a very tough non-region schedule has brought the Knights to an 11-7 record so far. Three starters for the Knights have been nursing injuries that have kept them off the court; Kimiyo Garcia (East Providence), Stephanie Maxwell (Warwick) and Jasmine Bonanca (Swansea) are all eager to get back on the court soon. Other teammates have stepped up to fight for their victories. Captain Nicole Pedro (Fall River, MA), at 5’1”, has been forced into duty as an outside hitter. Abby Hummel (Warwick) has done a little of everything while April Oberelman (Woonsocket) and Sonja Nealy (Woonsocket) have remained a potent setter-hitter combo and freshman Tina Hilton (Woonsocket) is coming into her own as a middle hitter. The Knights have enough talent and drive to get themselves into the post-season; once back at full strength they are sure to prove that they can compete forcefully with any team in the country.
CROSS COUNTRY
The CCRI men’s cross country team is off to a great start and is currently ranked #3 by the NJCAA in Division III. In their latest meet before publication, the men’s team finished a strong third place against some quality four-year schools and varsity programs during the Ray Dwyer Invitational at Goddard Park. Captain Chris Farrell (Lincoln) led his team with a great 3rd place individual finish in a time of 28:20 over the 5-mile course, a full minute faster then his 2004 time over the same course. Bryan Galvin (Seekonk, MA) placed 16th in a time of 28:59, more than two minutes faster then his 2004 race. Joe Hannon (Gloucester) placed 20th with a time of 29:09, improving more than three minutes on his 2004 race. Luis Rodriguez (Lincoln) finished in 31st in a time of 30:30, followed by Ron Guenard (Cumberland) in 34th with a time of 30:13. In 64th place was Nick Weinhofer (New Foundland, CA) with a time of 36:18. On the women’s side Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton, MA) placed 32nd with a time of 22:30 on the 5k course.
