CCRI Foundation, consultants lead work to secure Title III grant

BY JULIE WHITE
CONTRIBUTING WRITER

For the past ten months, a CCRI team of faculty members and staff have been collaborating on a proposal that could garner as much as $350,000 a year for five years to fund retention programs at the college. Each year, Title III grants from the U.S. Department of Education help underwrite projects that can improve academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability. To qualify, higher education institutions must offer associate and/or baccalaureate degrees and enroll a significant percentage of needy students. At CCRI, such a grant could help the college develop academic interventions for the significant number of underprepared students who enroll in its classes and are unable to achieve success.

As part of this process, our Title III team, lead by consultants Kathe German and Liz Palter, has engaged in intensive research at both CCRI and at Title III-award-winning community colleges. While the team has conducted focus groups, one-on-one interviews and broad-based surveys involving the CCRI community, its members are still gathering data and would appreciate any additional input from faculty and staff.
