CROSS COUNTRY

It has been an excellent fall for the CCRI Athletic Department. The Men’s Cross Country Team is ranked #3 in the country, the Women’s Soccer team is ranked #4 in the country with their best record since their National championship run and the Women’s Volleyball team has set a new school record with 31 wins this season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The #3 ranked Knights posted an excellent regular season with a record of 14-2, their highest winning percentage (87.5%) since their National Championship year in 2002. The Knights went on a remarkable ten game winning streak, during which they gave up only two goals. In fact, the Knights have only given up six goals the entire season, outscoring their opponents by a whopping 86 to 6. The Knights’ 2005 regular season was filled with statistical highlights. Lindsay Laurie (Warwick) is the nation’s 14th ranked scorer with 21 goals and 10 assists for a total of 52 points. Jami Elliott (Cumberland) is the nation’s 24th ranked scorer with 18 goals and seven assists for 43 total points, and Anne Kineke (East Greenwich), who is currently the nation’s 9th ranked goalkeeper, has 44 saves relinquishing only six goals with a .527 goal-against average in 1,025.5 minutes of play.

The #3 ranked CCRI Knights Women’s Soccer Team lost a heart breaker to #2 ranked defending National Champion Monroe CC 1-0 at Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ to end their quest for another National Championship. With the loss the Knights end the season with a 14-3 record.

VOLLEYBALL

The CCRI Knights Women’s Volleyball Team set a new CCRI school record with 31 victories after beating Naval Prep finishing the regular season with a 31-14 record. They are led by April Oberhelman (Woonsocket) who leads the nation in aces with 107 (1.216/game), Kimiyo Garcia (East Providence) who is #4 in the nation in blocks with 183 (1.947/game) and #42 in hitting efficiency with a 33.01% efficiency, Sonja Nealy (Woonsocket) who is #6 in blocks with 185 (1.869/game), and Jasmine Bonanca (Swansea, MA) who is #10 in the country in digs with 615 (6.029/game). They have also received help from Sara Yany (Scituate) who is #21 in the nation in aces with 81 (.794/game) and Abby Hummel (Warwick) who is #39 in blocks with 96 in 89 games (1.079/game). The Knights are peaking, coming off their biggest victory over a very tough Navy Prep team. Coach Ray Deangelis says, “This is the best team we have beaten all year; if we can play this way at the Districts we’re going to Nationals.”

CROSS COUNTRY
The CCRI Men’s Cross Country Team is currently ranked #3 in the country by the NJCAA and the Cross Country Coaches Association. The Knights are led by Captain Chris Farrell (Lincoln) who placed third in the team’s last meet versus Army and Navy. The team as a whole has shown great signs of improvement at every meet. Hunter Stewart (Foster) ran three minutes faster than he had run all season. In addition the team has been helped by other runners like Joe Hannon (Gloucester), Mark Langlois (Warwick), Ron Guenard (Cumberland), Bryan Galvin (Seekonk, MA), Luis Rodriguez (Lincoln), and Nick Weinhofer (New Foundland, Canada), all of whom should run well at the Districts in November. On the women’s side they struggled to get enough runners early in the season but now have a full team. Both teams are gearing-up for the Northeast District meet Saturday November 5th at Suffolk CC in New York.

MEN'S SOCCER
The CCRI Men’s Soccer team ended the season 8-6-2, just falling short of making the Region XXI Tournament. The Knights played hard every game but had a difficult time scoring the first half of the season and had some injuries late in the season. Despite that the Knights were able to maintain a winning record. Offensively the Knights were led by co-captain Nick Medeiros (West Warwick) with four goals and two assists for ten points on the season and Todd Leveillee (North Scituate) whose four goals and one assist gave him nine points on the season. Both Jerry Rico (Cranston) and Daniel Ortiz (East Providence) each had three goals and two assists for eight points on the season. Defensively, goalkeeper Sidney Boaventura (Pawtucket) had 83 saves in 1050 minutes of play and Kevin Dos Santos (Cumberland) had 35 saves in 470 minutes of play.
