Three CCRI fall athletes named NCJAA Athletes of the Week

Three CCRI fall athletes were named athletes of the week in a nationwide NCJAA poll for their respective sports. Lindsay Laurie of Warwick, a sophomore, earned recognition during the week of September 25 as Women’s Soccer Division I player of the week. During that week, she led CCRI to a 3-0 record over Sacred Heart University’s club team, Massasoit CC, and Cincinnati Tech CC. During games against the first two, Laurie posted six points per game by scoring two goals and two assists each game. In the Cinci Tech game she scored two more goals. For the season, Laurie is the nation’s 14th ranked scorer with 21 goals and 10 assists for a total of 52 points.

Sherilyn Nicholas of Taunton, Mass. is a sophomore team captain for the women’s cross country team and was recognized as athlete of the week during the week of October 2. Nicholas has led her team in every meet; during the week she was honored she ran a personal best 21:03 at the James Early Invitational against stiff Division I and four-year college competition, proving her mettle at a high level of competition.

Ron Guenard is a freshman runner from Cumberland. His designation as men’s cross country athlete of the week came in the week of September 11. During that week the men’s team finished 8th out of 15 teams in the UMass-Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational, led by Guenard who led the Knights in the men’s JV race with a 7th place in a time of 27:20 over the 8K course.
