CCRI baseball, softball teams come out with bats swinging

The CCRI baseball team is off to an amazing start at 22-5 and 8-0 in Region XXI, ranked #14 nationally by the NJCAA in Division II. The Knights are led by pitchers Andy McNulty (Norwood, MA) who is 5-1 with 1.74 ERA and 56 strikeouts, Ryann Foss (Bradford, RI) who has an impressive .62 ERA with 45 strikeouts in only 29 innings, Marek Deska (Ontario, Canada) who is 4-0 including throwing a no-hitter with 51 strikeouts in 38 innings and Steve Minor (Worcester, MA) who is 4-1 with a 3.21 ERA.
Leading the Knights on the offensive side are Gregg Allen (Rehoboth, MA), who is batting an impressive .382 including three homeruns, seven doubles, with 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored and Brett Thornton (Coventry, RI) who is batting a whopping .469 with two homeruns, four doubles with 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Also helping with the stick are John Furtado (Johnston, RI) who is batting .323 with a homerun and five doubles, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored and Phil Butler (Cranston, RI) who is batting .300 with two homeruns and four doubles with 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
The Knights have been in ten one-run games with a record in those games of 8-2 showing their toughness under pressure with quality pitching and timely hitting.
Also on the diamond…the Lady Knights softball team is off to a blistering start of 16-1 and 8-0 in Region XXI. The Lady Knights are led by pitcher Jen Dupont (Lincoln, RI) who is 8-0 with an ERA of 1.07 and 48 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched, including two no-hit performances; the other ace is Becky Boisvert (Uxbridge, MA) who is 7-1 with an ERA of 1.60 and 28 strikeouts, including two one-hit outings.
On the offensive side, the Lady Knights are led by co-captain Lindsay Cavanagh (Warwick, RI) who is batting .614 with 35 hits including 11 doubles, two triples and a homerun with 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored. All-American Amanda Ward (East Hartford, CT) is batting .636 with 21 hits, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored in just ten games played after her All-American Basketball season. In addition, co-captain Aubrey Fisher (Somerset, MA) is batting .596 with 34 hits including five doubles, four triples and a grand slam homerun with 19 RBI and 23 runs scored.
The Lady Knights have also received a spark from freshmen Cat Cusson (Lincoln, RI) who is batting .511 with 24 hits and eleven stolen bases, Christina Campopiano (Johnston, RI), batting .452 with 14 hits, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. In addition Nicole Strapponi (Milford, MA) has added some pop to the line-up, batting .459 with 17 hits, including five doubles and two homeruns. Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) is batting .400 with 22 hits and 19 runs scored.
Jasmine Jennings (Warwick, RI) broke her own recent CCRI hammer throw record at the Elmer Swanson Invitational at Wesleyan University with a throw of 47.92m (157’.00), placing first in her second consecutive meet. Also setting a school record was Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton, MA) in the high jump with a leap of 1.54m (5.00.50) for fifth place; Nicholas also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 4.44m (14.07.00).
