Many study abroad programs available for CCRI students

Everyone knows that CCRI offers many educational opportunities close to home, but few realize all the opportunities available far away.
From England to Greece to Germany, CCRI offers students an opportunity to participate in more than 75 study abroad programs in more than 30 countries. The programs are sponsored by the College Consortium for International Studies " a partnership of two- and four-year, public and private institutions. CCIS also sponsors professional development seminars for faculty and administrators.

Deborah Notarianni-Girard, professor of foreign languages and cultures and coordinator of the study abroad program, said there are tremendous benefits to be gained by studying in a foreign land.

"A study-abroad experience will change and enlarge your academic and personal perspective. It will enhance your life in so many ways," she said.

An informational meeting on study abroad is scheduled for

Monday, March 28,
1:30 p.m.

Programs are offered for a semester, a summer, or full academic year. Students have options for living arrangements, depending on the institution abroad, including living with host families, in studio apartments on the grounds of private residences, or in dormitories.

Most programs are open to students who have studied at the college level for at least one year and have attained a GPA of at least 2.5, but program requirements vary. There are no age restrictions. Students may take a full load of courses during the semester-long programs, and all transcripts transfer back under the American grading system. Financial aid is also available.

"Studying abroad offers students an opportunity to gain a global perspective in their academic studies. It also enhances a student’s sense of independence and self-confidence," Notarianni-Girard said.
