Lady Knights score big this season

The biggest story this winter is the success of the CCRI Lady Knights basketball team, currently ranked #8 nationally in Division II by the NJCAA with a 19-3 record.

The Lady Knights are led by two of their tri-captains: Jeanell Hughes (Baltimore) is ranked nationally in three categories – #10 in scoring (19.6 pts/gm), #14 in field goal percentage (54.44%) and #1 in 3-point field goal percentage (52.78%) – and Amanda Ward (East Hartford, Conn.) who is ranked #14 in scoring, averaging 18.1 points a game.

The Lady Knights have only lost to one Division II school, #2 ranked Monroe CC, while beating three Division I schools, including #10 ranked Louisburg College, to win the Coca-Cola Classic. The Lady Knights are the only team in Region XXI to be ranked nationally.

Men's Basketball

Sitting atop Region XXI with a 7-0 record and a 14-8 record overall, the team is led by Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, Conn.) who averages 20.5 points a game. He is ranked #17 in the nation for Division II by the NJCAA.

Women's Track

Jasmine Jennings (Warwick), who has won every weight throw event this season, set a new school record of 52-02-.75 on January 15 . This throw ranks her #1 in the NJCAA poll. Just behind her is Nicole Sauer (East Greenwich) with a throw of 48-01-.75 feet on January 29 ranking her #4 in the NJCAA poll.

Elisa Semedo (Lisbon, Portugal) set a new school record in the 55m Hurdles with 8.94. This ranks her in the top three of the NJCAA poll.

Men's Track

Justin Dalton (Warwick) ran a school record in the 400m with 51.96. He is ranked 25th in the NJCAA poll.

Chris Farrell (Lincoln) has posted fine times in the 5000m with 16:51.82 and 3000m with 9:55.00.
