Letter to the CCRI Community from President Thomas D. Sepe

I want to inform you of my decision to step down as president of CCRI, effective December 31, 2005. I have arrived at this decision only after much consideration of the college and introspection about my own professional needs and interests.

As I look back over the past five and one-half years at CCRI, I am extremely proud of all that we have accomplished together, in so many areas of the college. These accomplishments have only been possible because of your willingness to participate in new initiatives that will serve our college for decades to come. Your creativity, passion, hard work and dedication have been immensely appreciated.

As you are well aware, student success has formed the centerpiece of my administration. During my tenure, the college has made tremendous progress in identifying factors that impact students’ success, in evaluating the college’s capacity and effectiveness in addressing students’ needs, and in developing tools to measure that success.

CCRI today has more services for students, more new, expanded and innovative programs, more and better facilities, more applications of technology, and greater financial support from our energetic Foundation. In addition, the business community has realized the benefits of CCRI’s workforce education and customized training. Clearly, we are contributing to the quality of life and economic development of our state.

During the past several years the college has undergone enormous changes. As CCRI faces another change – one of leadership – our community needs more than ever to continue its work in ensuring student success.

On a personal note I plan to return to the classroom where I can apply my 36 years of educational experience toward helping students achieve success, one student at a time. I am anxious to begin this career transition and I will begin preparing right away. I also intend to continue my involvement in the state’s economic development activities.

This has been one of the most rewarding and challenging professional experiences I have ever had, and I thank each and every one of you for accompanying me on this journey.
