Financial aid: deadlines are key
Don’t wait until the last minute
Beginning in January, forms for both federal and state financial aid will be available at the Office of Enrollment Services, as well as at high school guidance offices, public libraries and area colleges. You can also fill out your forms online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, loans and part-time job opportunities that can assist students and their families with college expenses. To be eligible for financial aid, a student must be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program. Students must also satisfactorily complete a minimum of 2/3 of their attempted credit hours both cumulatively and for each semester in order to remain eligible for financial aid.
Write down these dates
March 1
March 1 is the priority deadline to apply for the Rhode Island State Grant Program for the 2006-07 academic year. Students applying after this deadline greatly reduce their chances of receiving aid for the coming academic year.
May 1
May 1 is the priority deadline to apply for Federal financial aid. Those eligible for aid who apply after this date may not receive their aid in time for the next semester. Therefore, CCRI considers those who apply after May 1 financially responsible for their own tuition, pending government reimbursement.
