In her 38 years at CCRI, Millie Blessing has worked her way up the ranks.
Starting as an administrative assistant at the young age of 18, Blessing was recently named the new Coordinator of Advising & Counseling at the Newport County Campus.
Blessing has held positions of Admissions Officer, Academic Advisor and Student Development/Transfer Counselor, to name just a few.
“When I started working here, we were given the opportunity to attend classes at night,” Blessing said, “so I took advantage of it.”
Before she knew it, she had earned her A.A., B.A., M.A. and C.A.G.S. She has also completed doctoral-level coursework at URI.
Blessing has also been an adjunct faculty member in the Psychology Department of CCRI since 1980. She is a certified school psychologist in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
“When I began working here in 1968, there was occasional chat about a
‘Master Plan’ to build a state-system of junior colleges throughout Rhode
Island, including a campus on Aquidneck Island. I’m honored now, nearly 40
years later, to witness that vision transform into reality at One John
Chafee Boulevard, Newport.”
