Introduction to Computer Forensics (COMI-8035)
Computer Forensics- the science of acquiring and analyzing evidence in digital form, such as files on a hard drive or network activity (e-mail, etc.) - is an exploding field with applications in criminal justice, corporate information technology, homeland security and the military.
Students will learn:
- How to conduct a digital investigation
- How to acquire digital evidence
- How computers and the Internet work
- What kind of crimes specialists investigate
- How hardware and software works
- What legal and ethical issues are involved
Course Description:
This course will introduce students to the emerging field of Computer Forensics. It will provide a solid foundation in the concepts of collecting, preserving, and effectively using evidence. It will also introduce students to software tools and focus on other necessary skills needed to launch and complete a computer investigation. All text and materials will be supplied.
