Programs and Services for Our Community and Workforce

CCRI’s Division for Lifelong Learning enriches lives through customized training, corporate alliances, community partnerships, and non-credit continuing education. The division works collaboratively to fulfill its mission through the following four core purposes:

The Adult Basic Education Office provides General Education Development (GED) preparation and testing in English or Spanish for students attempting to acquire a high school equivalency diploma, as a stepping stone to further education. This office also advises and counsels its students on careers and college readiness. It also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for individuals who need to improve their conversational English skills and administers workplace literacy programs. Call (401) 455-6059, or (401) 333-7070 (Lincoln) for more information.

The Community Education Office provides education and training in the areas of transportation safety, vocational training, and special programs. Each year thousands of Rhode Islanders enroll in Driver Education, Motorcycle Safety, School Bus Driver, and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) education programs through that office. Hundreds more take advantage of non credit courses offered through CCRI at the Davies Career and Technical High School in Lincoln, Rhode Island, which hosts many of the Division’s continuing education programs.

Business and Economic Development assists Rhode Island economic development efforts through collaborative planning, workforce development programs, career non-credit education and training, and technical assistance to business and governmental agencies.

Occupational Skills Training is offered through the Adult Skills Training program that prepares individuals for employment or further technical education that leads to careers in high growth industries and the high performance workplace. Examples of programs offered are CNA, CNC Machine Operation, Graphics, Lead Abatement & Supervisor Training, Nail Tech, Office Skills Training, Printing Press & Bindery, Teacher Assistant and Welding at locations throughout Rhode Island. For more information, call 333-7286.

The Trade Program assists dislocated workers who have lost jobs because of increased imports or a shift in production out of the United States. Certified individuals are offered a combination of services including classroom training, OJT, customized training for specific employers and basic remedial education including ESL. These programs are offered at five netWORKri offices throughout Rhode Island. Visit your local netWORKri office for more information.
