CCRI’s Division for Lifelong Learning enriches lives through community partnerships, corporate alliances, customized training, and non-credit continuing education. The division works collaboratively to fulfill its mission through the following four core purposes:
Adult Education provides adult learners non-credit opportunities to acquire foundational skills and knowledge to enrich themselves, their families, their workplaces, and their community.
Community Education enriches the lives of a diverse population by providing lifelong learning through non-credit education and community partnerships.
Business and Economic Development assists Rhode Island economic development efforts through collaborative planning, workforce development programs, career non-credit education and training, and technical assistance to business and governmental agencies.
Occupational and Professional Education educates, trains, and certifies individuals for successful careers in an increasingly complex economy.
The Workforce Training & Corporate Education Office (WTCE) is a comprehensive resource addressing the workforce development needs of businesses in Rhode Island. WTCE offers companies customized assessment and training for their employees. Corporate training programs can be taught at any college campus or facility or onsite. Class schedules are designed to meet individual company needs. Training topics include basic workplace skills, computer skills, manufacturing technology, electronic training, office skills, communications and interpersonal skills, quality improvement, customer service and conversational language for business and more. The Community Education Office provides a variety of continuing education courses, personal development seminars, and certification programs to more than 16,000 individuals each year. Many of the programs are developed in response to the needs of the Rhode Island community or the mandates of state legislation. Electrical apprenticeship education, culinary arts training and driver education are prime examples of those programs. We also partner with state agencies, local high schools and community based organizations to develop and provide job training and other customized programs that address the needs of the community at large. Entrepreneurship Skills Training is offered through small business seminars to help you attain or build on skills to help you succeed in your new business venture! For information, call (401) 333-7070.
On-Line Learning is available in cooperation with EducationToGo, Inc.. A series of affordable non-credit, on-line courses are offered for individuals seeking to upgrade their skills in areas such as computer skills training, Web page design, business management, customer service, production and inventory management, and total quality. Offerings also include personal enrichment courses such as Speed Spanish, digital photography, GRE Preparation and SAT/LSAT Preparation.
Each course provides a total of 24 hours of instruction over a six-week period. These are affordable (most courses as low as $59), high quality courses are designed for students who want to make their own schedules. For information visit Lifelong's Distance learning web site or call (401) 333-7070.
Additional online non-credit career and workforce training programs are offered through Gatlin Education Services. Health care, business, technical, networking, Microsoft certification and video game design programs are included in the Gatlin Education programs.
The Adult Basic Education Office provides General Education Development (GED) preparation and testing for individuals attempting to acquire a high school equivalency diploma. It also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for individuals who need to improve their conversational English skills and administers workplace literacy programs. Occupational Skills Training is offered through several grant-funded programs that enable qualified participants to receive skill training, remedial education and job search skills. Programs are offered at the CCRI campuses and the Training and Technology Center at Quonset, Woonsocket Career & Technical Center, Davies Career & Technical High School and at four netWORKri offices including Providence, Warren, West Warwick and Pawtucket. These programs provide a variety of services to unemployed or underemployed adults, recent immigrants, displaced workers, single parents and welfare recipients. For information, call (401)333-7286.
