The Basic Office Skills Program is designed to give students
immediate job training for entry-level office positions. Such positions
include office assistant, word processing typist, receptionist and
data entry clerk. This certificate could also be completed part-time
days and/or evenings, but would, of course, extend the time for

* A challenge exam will be administered
for the prerequisite course, OFTD 1120. Students passing
this exam will be able to enroll directly into the OFTD
1220 course. Students who do not pass this exam, or
who have no keyboarding skill, must enroll in the OFTD
1160 course first. |
Note: General Studies and Liberal Arts students can use
the elective credits portion of their degree programs to earn a
certificate in Basic Office Skills (17 credits) and/or Office Administration
(35 credits) as well as other department certificates. Following
this procedure would enable student to graduate as a dual major.
(This program offered daytime only)
The Legal Office Assistant Certificate Program is designed specifically
for students interested in acquiring the skills needed for entry-level
legal administrative support positions in the least amount of time.
These office environments offer rewarding career opportunities for
the one-year college graduate, and employment trends for the future
indicate a continuing demand for graduates of this program. As such,
it is ideal for the displaced transitional worker. All credits earned
in this certificate program are fully transferable to the Legal
Administrative Assistant Degree Program.
Note: To complete this certificate in one year, students
must already be able to type at the rate of 25 words per minute
before enrolling in the program, or they must enroll in a Keyboarding
I course which will prolong the time it takes to complete the program
by one semester.

Option 1: The first option for students who complete the
certificate program is to enter the travel and tourism industry
with marketable skills and training.
Option 2: The second option for Travel and Tourism certificate
recipients is to continue their education in the General Studies
Program. Students interested in earning an associate degree from
CCRI may apply their Travel and Tourism credits to the General Studies
degree program. The General Studies degree program requires 60 credits
for completion, 28 of which are elective credits. The Travel and
Tourism certificate program requires 34 credits, including six in
math and English, which are also part of the General Studies degree.
The remaining 28 credits from the Travel and Tourism program can
be used to meet the 28 elective credits for the General Studies
degree.
Students will be able to complete the Travel and Tourism certificate
first and then apply all credits toward a General Studies degree
or work concurrently in the two programs.
