Renal Dialysis Technology Certificate

The Renal Dialysis Technology Certificate Program is a two-semester program that prepares persons to work as renal dialysis technicians in outpatient settings. Students will receive theoretical as well as practical preparation in the duties and responsibilities of a renal dialysis technician. The various aspects of kidney diseases, the principles of dialysis, dialysis modalities, dialysis devices, dialyzer reprocessing and water treatment are included. A practicum in a dialysis facility is included in the program to provide students an opportunity to develop and practice the skills of the renal dialysis technician, and participate as a team member under the supervision of an instructor in the clinical area. Successful completion of the program qualifies the graduate for an entry-level position as a dialysis technician. Note: The graduate will also be prepared to sit for the national certification examination for dialysis technicians. Thirty credit hours are required for the certificate.

Technical standards: These standards give a sense of the physical requirements, psychomotor skills and affective behaviors associated with a particular occupation. The physical activity (Strength) level for Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer   (078.362-026) is classified as "Light" by the Department of Labor in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

Program Requirements: Student must hold current CPR certification (AHA Healthcare Provider Level) prior to RENL 1010.
