Dental Hygiene

Flanagan Campus

The associate degree dental hygienist is a licensed professional who provides primary preventive dental services to patients in a wide variety of settings. Students in this program attend lecture and laboratory classes, and provide treatment in the modern, well-equipped dental hygiene clinic on campus. This program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CDA), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation, and by the United States Department of Education. Contact information: American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation, 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611; Tel: 312.440.4653.

This two-year course of study prepares students to sit for two examinations required for dental hygiene licensure in Rhode Island: the written National Board Dental Hygiene Examination, and the clinical Northeast Regional Board Dental Hygiene Examination. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. Students are responsible for purchasing instruments and uniforms, as well as board examination and licensing fees.
