Dental Assisting Certificate

Flanagan Campus and Kingston site

The primary function of the dental assistant is to assist the dentist at chairside in all phases and procedures of dental operations and treatment. As dentistry becomes more technologically complex, its practitioners experience greater need for skilled assistance from knowledgeable personnel. The Dental Assisting Program is designed to provide the dental profession with well-educated, highly skilled chairside assistants. It is a two-semester didactic, laboratory and clinical curriculum which provides the student with the knowledge requisite to basic understanding of oral care in health and disease, and the clinical skills necessary to be successful as a dental assistant. Students complete a portion of their classroom and laboratory work on campus. They also receive actual clinical experience through rotational assignments to public and private oral health care facilities in the community. Upon successful completion of the course of study, students are awarded a certificate by the College. Graduates are eligible to sit for a nationally recognized certification examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. Students are responsible for purchasing dental instruments and uniforms.

The Dental Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation, and by the United States Department of Education.
