LEGL 2310 – Legal Forms and Terminology - 3 Credits
A study of the forms required in legal and business transactions and used by
attorneys and counsellors at law. An explanation of the origin and use of the
forms introduces terminology in which the legal secretary should be versed. In
addition, the judicial system covering the federal, state, and municipal levels
is studied with emphasis on the jurisdiction of such courts, the complaint, the
answer, the filing of motions, and the time requirements involved herein, the
taking of depositions and interrogatories, assignment of cases and the
certification and authentication of documents. Lecture: 3 hours
LEGL 2320 – Legal Document Processing - 3 Credits
This course acquaints the Legal Administrative Assistant/Secretary with the
formatting and editing skills needed for processing the legal documents that are
commonly a part of their work load in law offices. A job simulation project is
the basis for these applications which will be completed on microcomputers.
Students will continue to develop their keyboarding speed and accuracy. A
minimum of 40 wpm is required to pass this course. (Prerequisite: OFAD 1220 or
permission of instructor) Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour
LEGL 2420 – Legal Office Administration 3 Credits
This course gives the legal secretarial student practice in the preparation
of legal documents. Students learn the various procedural steps in the
litigation process. In addition, students become familiar with many of the
duties, problems and situations likely to occur during the course of employment
in an attorney’s office. (Prerequisite: LEGL 2320 and ADAS 2520) Lecture: 3
hours
