German (GERM)

GERM 1000 – Basic Spoken German I - 3 Credits

A one-semester course for beginners. Emphasis will be on correct pronunciation of basic vocabulary in everyday conversations. Dialogues for travel and other practical use will be learned. This introduction to German will prepare the student who never studied German to use the language correctly within a limited context and to understand its basic structure. Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 3 hour

GERM 1100 – Basic Spoken German II - 3 Credits

A continuation of Basic Spoken German I – (GERM 1000). (Prerequisite: GERM 1000 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours

GERM 1010 – Elementary German I - 3 Credits

Elements of the language for the beginning student with little or no preparation: conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading and writing. The cultural aspects of Germany are covered.  Lecture: 5 hours, Lab: 1 hour

GERM 1020 – Elementary German II - 3 Credits

A continuation of Elementary German I (GERM 1010). (Prerequisite: GERM 1010, 1030 or equivalent) Lecture: 5 hours, Lab: 1 hour

GERM 1030 – Elementary German I - 3 Credits

Elements of the language: conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading and writing. The cultural aspects of Germany are covered. (Prerequisite: Prior preparation or permission of instructor)  Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour

GERM 1040 – Elementary German II - 3 Credits

A continuation of Elementary German I (GERM 1030). (Prerequisite: GERM 1030, GERM 1010 or equivalent)  Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour

GERM 1510–Conversational German I - 3 Credits

A course to further develop the student’s fluency in speaking German. Oral practice includes active use of the language in short dialogues stressing basic communication and correct pronunciation. The reading of easy cultural texts also provides material for conversation and discussion. Tapes are available for individual practice. (Prerequisite: Two years of high-school German or one year of college German, or the equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours

GERM 1520 – Conversational German II - 3 Credits

A continuation of Conversational German I (GERM 1510). (Prerequisite: GERM 1510 or the equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours

GERM 2010 – Intermediate German I - 3 Credits

Development of facility in reading and discussing German texts related to culture and literature. The course work is supplemented by further work in grammar, conversation and composition. (Prerequisite: GERM 1020, 1040 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours

GERM 2020 – Intermediate German II - 3 Credits

A continuation of Intermediate German I (GERM 2010) (Prerequisite: GERM 2010 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours
