GEOL 1010 – General Geology I (Physical Geology) - 4 Credits
This course investigates the planet earth as a resource system
using basic scientific concepts. Major topics included are the study of economic
and rock-forming minerals, rocks, and soils; internal processes, such as volcanoes
and earthquakes; external processes of weathering and erosion; and a detailed
understanding of the geologic features of earth and the geology of Rhode Island.
In addition, field trips to geologically important localities in Rhode Island
and the vicinity are taken. Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 2 hours
GEOL 1020 – General Geology II (Historical Geology) - 4 Credits

plate tectonics, sea-floor spreading, origin and evolution of earth, water and
life, study of index fossils, the Ice Age, evolution of man, man as a geologic
agent and economic and environmental considerations of our earth. Field trips
