FREN 1000 – Basic Spoken French I - 3 Credits
A one-semester course for beginners emphasizing correct pronunciation
of basic vocabulary in everyday conversations. Dialogues for travel and other
practical use will be learned. This introduction to French will prepare the
beginner to use the language correctly within a limited context and to understand
its basic structure. Lecture: 3 hours
FREN 1100 – Basic Spoken French II - 3 Credits
A continuation of Basic Spoken French I – (FREN 1000). (Prerequisite:
FREN 1000 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours
FREN 1010 – Elementary French I - 3 Credits
Elements of the language for the beginning student with little
or no preparation: conversation, pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar.
The cultural aspects of France and Canada are covered. Lecture: 5 hours,
Lab: 1 hour
FREN 1020 – Elementary French II - 3 Credits
A continuation of Elementary French I (FREN 1010). (Prerequisite:
FREN 1010, FREN 1030 or its equivalent) Lecture: 5 hours, Lab: 1 hour
FREN 1030 – Elementary French I - 3 Credits
Elements of French: conversation, pronunciation, reading,
writing and grammar. Cultural aspects of France and Canada are introduced. (Prerequisite:
Prior preparation or permission of instructor) Lecture: 3 hours, Lab:
1 hour
FREN 1040 – Elementary French II - 3 Credits
A continuation of Elementary French I (FREN 1030). (Prerequisite:
FREN 1030, FREN 1010 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour
FREN 1510 – Conversational French I - 3 Credits
A course to further develop the student’s fluency in speaking
French. Oral practice includes active use of the language in short dialogues
stressing basic communication and correct pronunciation. The reading of easy
cultural texts also provides material for conversation and discussion. Tapes
are available for individual practice. (Prerequisite: Two years of high school
French or one year of college French, or the equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours
FREN 1520 – Conversational French II - 3 Credits
A continuation of Conversational French I (FREN 1510). Conversational
practice, cultural readings and discussions. (Prerequisite: FREN 1510 or the
equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours
FREN 2010 – Intermediate French I - 3 Credits
A review of grammar and further work in conversation and
writing. Recommended for students who wish to continue the study of French in
the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing and culture. (Prerequisite:
FREN 1020 or 1040 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour
FREN 2020 – Intermediate French II - 3 Credits
A continuation of Intermediate French I (FREN 2010). (Prerequisite:
FREN 2010 or its equivalent) Lecture: 3 hours, Lab: 1 hour
FREN 2210 – French Conversation and Composition I - 3 Credits
This course will be conducted mostly in French and will provide
through selected tapes, records and classroom discussion an atmosphere for the
development and improvement of speaking and hearing French. Written compositions
will be required. Readings dealing with French culture and current events will
provide material for appreciation and class discussion. (Prerequisite: Permission
of instructor) Lecture: 3 hours
FREN 2220 – French Conversation and Composition II - 3 Credits
This is a continuation of FREN 2210. (Prerequisite: FREN
2210) Lecture: 3 hours
