DISCOVER is an online career planning program available to all CCRI students and alumni. This is one real neat program that will help you select a major or decide on a career.
Get information about occupations, look up "hot jobs", get linked to other colleges' web sites, plan your major, plan your career, look up scholarships and take self-assessment inventories. The good stuff DISCOVER can do for you just doesn't end.
Sit before a PC, put in an access code and explore DISCOVER. You're in for a nice surprise…this is a terrific tool for planning your future. To get a free access code call Career Services 825-2307.

Once you have completed DISCOVER, make an appointment to review your results with a career or academic counselor.
How to Get Started
- Bring a disk with you to the Computer Lab or Student Services' Testing Center so that you can keep a record of your sessions.
- Request headphones. DISCOVER has both audio & video features.
- Click on the DISCOVER icon on the desktop screen.
- Follow instructions regarding inserting your disk & selecting an ID#.
- The main menu page is the same as page 2 in the packet that you will receive in the Computer Lab or Student Services' Testing Center. All navigation of DISCOVER is from this menu location.
- Get familiar with navigating DISCOVER by clicking HELP DESK from the main menu page. Here you'll find a brief overview of each of the 4 Halls, the World-of-Work Map, and the Control Panel. Pay special attention to using the Control Panel. You'll find this bar at the bottom of most screens.
- Control Panel - If you're at a screen without a Control Panel (generally, at a video or image), click outside of the image or graphic to exit if you don't want to continue.
- If you want a hard copy of your results, click print and/or save at the appropriate screen to obtain summary of your interaction.
- As you exit you can print and/or save (to disk) your Career Plan (summary of total interaction with DISCOVER).
Don't forget to make an appointment to review DISCOVER results with a career or academic counselor.
Where to Begin
If undecided about a Career or Educational Path, it is recommended that you Start at Hall 1. However, when looking for Specific Information, you may start at any other location.
- HALL 1: LEARN ABOUT SELF & CAREER
- This is a good point of entry. Includes inventories to help you determine your interests, values & skills thus allowing you to match up your results to possible occupations and majors.
- HALL 2: CHOOSE OCCUPATIONS
- This location provides four different ways to get occupational information.
- HALL 3: PLAN MY EDUCATION
- A location for researching majors, looking up colleges, & checking out scholarships & other financial aid.
- HALL 4: PLAN FOR WORK
- All about getting employed. Provides help with resumes, interviewing & job search.
