Crime Reporting
Introduction
The Department of College Police is committed to providing services that
create
and foster a safe environment. That commitment is imbedded in the idea
that all
community members are active participants in the crime prevention
effort. Each
person shares responsibility for a safe campus.
The Community College of Rhode Island is known as a safe campus and we
ask
for suggestions and look for the community’s input to enhance the
environment
or working conditions. For more information or assistance please contact
one of
the college campus police offices.
Reporting a Crime
It is the shared responsibility of every community member to report crimes on campus.
What to do
- Call the College Police
- Knight Campus (Warwick) College Police at 401-825-2109
- Flanagan Campus (Lincoln) College Police at 401-333-7035
- Liston Campus (Providence) College Police at 401-455-6050
- Newport County Campus College Police at 401-851-1620
- They will need to know:
- A good description of the culprit including height,
weight, color of hair and eyes, clothes and direction of
travel. - Vehicle information including make and model, color, and license plate.
- Number of persons involved
- Date and time of incident
- Details about the crime

- Do not handle, touch, or remove evidence
- Remove yourself from the crime scene if it’s unsafe
- Remain calm
A College Police Officer will interview you further to complete the investigation. Some crimes will require the presence and collaboration with the local law enforcement agency.
Any person who is a victim of a crime on campus may request the local law enforcement agency be notified of an incident. This does not mean that the other agency will respond to the scene of the incident.
Crime Reports
Crime reports are available upon request and can be furnished by the
College Police in
two business days or within reason. However, the Federal Education
Rights and Privacy
Act may restrict certain information from being disclosed. [see
